I didn't pay close attention, but I thought on one of the replays of Pujols' slide into home yesterday, he put his hand on the umpire's (Barrett's) chest during the argument. He didn't push him, but I thought he did make contact. Did anyone else see that and, if so, shouldn't that automatically mean at least three games?

Yes he did but it was not out of anger, he won't get suspended for it. He more "put his hands on the back" of the ump kind of like a "come here look at this" type of thing.

Not only did Pujols touch Barrett, he appeared to kind of yank him by the right shoulder when he first ran up to the ump. Camera angles can be deceiving though, but that's how it appeared, especially because the ump didn't turn to face Pujols until his shoulder was yanked in his direction.

I didn't see it, but any touching of the ump should be 3 games, doesn't matter if it was intentional or not.

There was no malice at all, it was more a run over to talk to. The only way discipline should come would be if it was in the rulebook about touching an ump, UK said yesterday it's ump's discretion. Non-issue.

I was just going to start a thread on this because it was blatantly obvious that his hand(s?) were all over him when they showed the replay.

SSR, does the umps discretion even matter in a suspension? I thought it would only be for an ejection. I doubt MLB asks the ump if it "bothered" him or something before issuing a suspension or fine.

MLB would use the same discretion as the umps. I doubt they even review it, unless it is send it in.

Pujols doesn't deserve to get suspended for that, but who knows, I've been surprised before and I hope he doesn't.

If Fielder got suspended for letting one of his mantitties touch the ump I think pujols should certainly get suspended for what he did.

However, in my opinion he shouldn't be suspended (I dont think fielder should have been either) because he did clearly put his hand on the ump but it wasnt in a violent way. It was just a "hey look" type of thing.

Edit: Also, mucho props to that ump for not pulling a joe west and following pujols and starting a fight. That's the first time in a long time i've seen an ump just keep his cool and not follow a player (like in the fielder incident) towards the dugout after being screamed at.

There is a quite a bit of difference between the two situation. Fielder had already been thrown out and was in the umps face yelling at him. Pujols was not thrown out yet and wasnt even thrown out after, which makes me think even the ump didnt think Pujold did anything wrong. If Pujols does get suspened I wouldnt have a huge problem with it cause you should not put your hands on an ump, but the two cases are different.

Sounds like the two cases are different, but I'm pretty sure I've seen that sort of "friendly touching" result in a suspension before, although I admit I can't pinpoint when it was. I think it depends on how the ump takes it.

The ump didnt seem to take this one serious enough to throw him out, so I dont think that Pujols will be suspened. If he is I cant see it being more then one game but I would put my money on no suspension.
