I can see where you are coming from playing devils advocate for LaRussa but that is how the rule is written. If they were playing in StLouis and it was reversed we wouldnt like it much either. Its something that they can take a look at over the winter and try to tweak, but at this point keep raining and go Cubs.

Also, something i didnt know: If a game is suspended before it becomes a regulation game, and is continued prior to another regularly scheduled game, the regularly scheduled game with be limited to seven innings.

Huh? Where did you read that?

It sounds like the game would be over if they can't get it in today. I'm not sure though because the rules don't address this situation.
It's addressed by silence. Since the game is official and it does not fit into one of the situations resulting in a suspended game, it is considered completed.

I'm reading the official rules right now... and unless I'm mistaken, this game would not be suspended.

You're not mistaken. For the game to be suspended the Cardinals would have needed to take the lead (or at least tie).

please explain no. 8.

No. 8 applies in games that are suspended before they become regulations games (4 1/2 innings or 5 if the visitor leads). The 7 inning rule only applies to games suspended for reasons other than weather.

Ugh, DP for the Brewers. Dunn about killed Hardy as he slid into second though.

:lol: That would scare the hell out of me to see him sliding in.

So, if this game drags past 7:00 CST, will FOX stay with it or will they switch to the Cowboys-Broncos preseason game?

Hopefully they'd stay with it. Pre-season football sucks anyway.

I'm a Cowboys fan and I agree.

doubtful. I've never seen a 7 inning major league game. they re-start non-regulation games (another stupid rule).

It was more like a cut-block.

Sounds like the game could be called right now, according to this:

(a) A game shall become a suspended game that must be completed at a future date if the game is terminated for any of the following reasons:

(5) Weather, if a regulation game is called while an inning is in progress and before the inning is completed, and the visiting team has scored one or more runs to take the lead, and the home team has not retaken the lead; or

(6) It is a regulation game that is called with the score tied. National Association Leagues may also adopt the following rules for suspended games. (If adopted by a National Association League, Rule 4.10(e) would not apply to their games.):

Also, something i didnt know: If a game is suspended before it becomes a regulation game, and is continued prior to another regularly scheduled game, the regularly scheduled game with be limited to seven innings.

yea, that isn't true.

I took it right off MLB.com.

Games that would normally be suspended before regulation are just cancelled out and postponed now.

No, it could be for a game suspended for any reason. The key point is that rule applies to the minor leagues, not the majors.
National Association Leagues may also adopt the following rules for suspended games. (If adopted by a National Association League, Rule 4.10(e) would not apply to their games.):

(7) The game has not become a regulation game (41/2 innings with the home team ahead, or 5 innings with the visiting club ahead or tied).

(8) If a game is suspended before it becomes a regulation game, and is continued prior to another regularly scheduled game, the regularly scheduled game with be limited to seven innings.

(9) If a game is suspended after it is a regulation game, and is continued prior to another regularly scheduled game, the regularly scheduled game will be a nine inning game.

Note the bolded part of the above quote. No. 8 and 9 apply to National Association leagues, which is the official name for the minors.

Have the criteria for rule 8 been met since the rule was instated?

It would be unusual. It would have to be a game suspended before it was a regulation game because:

(1) A curfew imposed by law;

(2) A time limit permissible under league rules;

(3) Light failure or malfunction of a mechanical field device under control of the home club. (Mechanical field device shall include automatic tarpaulin or water removal equipment);

(4) Darkness, when a law prevents the lights from being turned on;

EDIT: Re-read that and there's another rule below that limits a 7-inning restart to apply only to a came suspended due to a lighting failure.

(So, yeah, it's a stupid rule.)
