Cameron Maybin-OF-Tigers Aug. 17 - 11:28 am et

Multiple sources report that the Tigers will call up top prospect Cameron Maybin prior to Friday's game against the Yankees.

General manager Dave Dombrowski said last week that Maybin would not play in the majors this season, but both the Detroit Free Press and Asheville Citizen-Times report that those plans have changed. The 10th overall pick in the 2005 draft, Maybin has emerged as one of the elite prospects in baseball at just 20 years old. He was promoted from Single-A to Double-A last week, so a call-up to the big leagues comes as a huge surprise at this point and it's unclear how much playing time he'll get in the Tigers' outfield.

Wow. Should be exciting.

Maybin is awesome and if he turns out to be really good I have a few Bowman Chrome cards of him that could become very valuable!

I guess barely hitting over .300 in A ball is enough to get him called up.

First Upton and now Maybin? Wow, these guys are way ahead of schedule...and oh-so-young!

Why isn't Bruce up, since he has put up better numbers at a higher level?

I saw Maybin a couple of times last year with Western Michigan. He was clearly the stud of the league. Not just as a hitter but he was a great CFer. Strange they are bringing him up now.

it's not like they play for the same team.

where is he gonna play? Dunn, Hamilton and Griffey are pretty entrenched in that OF

Play Dunn at first base and let Bruce play left.

No I know, it just seems like the Tigers are making a mistake pulling this kid up way to soon.

Leyland and Drombowski seem to have no problem letting youngsters get a chance.

Dave Dombrowski is on the record as saying, "I wouldn't trade Cameron Maybin straight up for Alfonso Soriano...." so I am looking forward to seeing how good this kid can be.

i wouldn't either. Maybin could be Soriano at a very cheap price for the next few years.

Maybin reminds me more of V. Guerrero than Soriano.

okay.... my point was that Maybin could match Soriano's level of production for about 4% of the price.

I wonder how Dombrowski meant that. Did he mean it as a comparison? That Maybin will actually be better than Soriano over the next couple seasons? Or that factoring in age and cost, that Maybin is a better value?

What a terrible move.

Dude is a slap hitter with a sh*tload of K's right now. On the other hand...he sounds amazing defensively and he'll take a walk.

I have actually heard he isn't all that good defensively.
