So is there still room for Burrell's $14M salary in 2008? I'm guessing the answer is no.

Does it matter? We already have one overpriced outfielder on the team

Absolutely outstanding. I knew it would come, didn't think it would come now though. Either way, great deal for the Cubs!

Yeah, we have to be getting close to the salary cap.

Much like crying, there's no salary cap in baseball. A luxury tax, but no salary cap.

Jayson Stark was talking about how the commissioner's office helped facilitate the deal. I wonder what that was about? Giving McDonaugh and Hendry the go ahead over the objection of the Trib Co.?

Levine said the same thing actually. He said Selig got involved and got permission from all parties. Levine also said he thinks Z is 28 and not 26.

Zambrano has resigned 5 year 90 mil. Per Bruce Levine.

So the guy last night wasn't BSing.

Just got home from a long day of work. Thought I'd check up on my credit for last night's *tip*.

Here's to the Cubs. And a solid source.

I think Levine's probably talking out of his ass.

Levine annoys me, he is bearable when I close my eyes then remember when he went off on Joe Morgan about Santo's hof miss.

i'm sure this was already brought up, but the best part of this was when, in the press conference, carlos said 'i'd like to thank God... because without Him, i'm screwed.' lol

HAHAHA, when I watched it for some reason I thought he said "Scott", and I thought, wow thats was generous of him to thank his former agent.

this sucks

Sarcasm, right?

not really.

So you'd really let Zambrano walk any for nothing with a huge gaping hole to fill in your rotation? This rotation already has a question mark in it so why would you make that an even bigger area of concern?

better than having a huge gaping hole in our rotation that costs 18 mil.

It's simple. Let Z walk and sign Carlos Silva. It's that easy.

What else would you want to fill the void that he would have left in the rotation? I like Gallagher a lot, but would you expect a rotation of Lilly, Marquis, Hill, Gallagher, and Marshall to win you a lot of games?

And how is Zambrano a huge hole in the rotation? He is wild at times, but his stuff is among the best in the league and he's still only 26.

How is Zambrano a "huge gaping hole" in the Cubs rotation? I would like to see the stats for this one.

I'll give it a try: zero. The only stat you need.

That's the number of big money, five year deals for pitchers that have really worked out well for the team who signs the pitcher for the duration of the deal.

btw - I still would have signed Z to the contract and I'm happy to have him on board. It's a huge risk, but one that had to be taken at this point.

well whatss your definition of "worked out". I'm pretty confident that Z has 5 more years of consistent production in him.
