I think it was GatewayRedbirds.com that I just read this on (I've been to a lot of sites in the past few minutes)...

The Cubs will be the second team in history to have 2 players making more than $18million on average...Sori and Z. Is that right? I assume the Yanks have to be the other team, right?

Soriano doesn't make that much.

Cards fans need to learn division

That would have been 5/75 if Hendry could have done the deal at the beginning of the year, but 3 mil a year extra is no big deal for the Cubs.

Well actually the only indication of what it would have been was Z saying that he wanted Zito money but over 5 years. Thats exactly what this is.

I didn't see that on there.

I heard there is a 6th year player option @ 19m. Can anyone confirm?

Soriano's contract is backloaded, so though it averages $18mil/year, he's not making that much this season

It doesn't average $18 per.

Wow. I was wrong.

I wonder what took so long? I wonder if this has anything to do with the uncertainty of the sale. Maybe Hendry got the go ahead from MLB b/c the sale is up in the air.

Anyway, good news.

strange place to announce it but 18 mil a year is a ton

Compared to the pitching market? Hardly. Z would have gotten 7 years, 130 million+ out there.

Props to BleacherBadger for bringing us this news last night!

Probably true which makes the market completely out of whack. No A-Rod now fellas

Not impossible to still sign A-Rod. They'll have $105 mil. or so committed for '08 with arguably only a catcher and an upgraded bat to sign. $90 mil. committed for '09.

It's about the 6th post down in the Z thread.

5 years is great. Im really surprised Z signed for only 5. He got a lot of $ per year though, but it sure seems like market, maybe better than for the Cubs.

Yah, this came out of nowhere.
