I wish DLee hadn't swung at the first pitch. I thought Jacque deserved a curtain call. He has been my goat for a long time, but today, thus far, other than Hill, he's been the player of the game.

The sad thing is, if Jacque Jones hit 60 HRs and was given nightly curtain calls he would still never like the Cubs. For some reason, the Cubs fans just hated him like no other Cubs. Think about all of our bad FAs signings, none were ever hated as much as Jacque. The man hit a career high in HRs and was still hated by the Cubs. Not fair, and I feel really bad for the guy because you have to believe that he thinks racism is the reason.

Todd Hundley. Put away the race card.

I didn't say it was racism, I said he probably thinks it was. So I guess I'm playing the race card for him. Oh well.

He flipped off the fans. He brought that all on himself.

Whatever the reason, Hundley was more hated than JJ.

Think about the crap white guys who catch a pass though. Augie, Koyie Hill, Paul Baco. None of them caught what our black guys did.

Illini you really arent being serious right? Augie Koyie Hill and Paul Baco came here with no expectations, compared to Latroy Hawkins, JJ, and others, and thats not even mentioning the money they made compared to Augie etc...

I guess you are right with the expectations thing. But Patterson was ripped and he wasn't amking any money. I sometimes think race plays a factor in it.

I think a lot of it has to do with expectations. Also, Jacque started out really bad with the cubs and then whined about the fans to the media. With Hawking, he was directly losing game after game.

I dont believe that at all. Jones started out horrible, and the team was horrible, and it free falled from there.

I'm usually one of the last guys to pull the race card, but I definitely think racism had something to do with the LaTroy and Jacque hate. I felt really bad for LaTroy because it was his hometown team, but he at least had an attitude about things that made him a little harder to like. I've always liked Jacque personally for the way he handled himself,(remember it was Dusty that brought up the racist letters, not Jacque) but he went even further to cement himself for me when he sat down and shut up the 2-3 week period where he was pinch runner extrodinaire. He said all the right things, never publicly raised a fuss and was a class act about it. I'm ecstatic to see him succeeding lately.

Incredible outing by Hill, looked like he did in the first half.

Get him some runs, and hold this lead.

I think 2 of his last 3 starts have been solid. The outlier is the game at Coors which he pitched decent for 5 2/3 innings.

I think Patterson was ripped because he failed to live up to the hype.

Hey Gale Sayers... SHUT UP! No one cares what the hell you have to say.

I hate this. Cubs-Cards late in the season, one run game in the bottom of the 7th inning, and we're listening to some old man talking about football. Come the hell on.

But again with Corey, he came with huge expectations, this organization had pumped him up to the fans big time.

If I remember correctly, jock received his share of pretty brutal racial remarks as well. As far as Hundley flipping the crowd off, that was his frustration with the treatment he had been receiving from fans up to that point.

That wasn't what was being discussed. I was contesting the comment that JJ was the most hated Cubs player.

I've never understood why Jones seemed to be hated more than Hendry for the signing. Jones was a mediocre player who was smart enough to sign with a team whose GM was dumb enough to offer a contract that the market wasn't calling for. Unlike LaTroy Hawkins who was a good relief pitcher who came to us and flat out stunk.

i still wouldn't fight sayers. dude looks fit.

He is, I met him last year at an autograph show. He shook my hand, he has a hell of a grip for a man his age.

Perhaps Cubs fans were excited when Hundley first came to the team because of the legacy his father built with the Cubs. I'm sure that had something to do with his warm welcome, and JJ's contract situation and the disappointment that the Cubs settled on him when we wanted a better outfielder had something to do with Jones's lack of a leash from fans.
