good that he's back up. i really hope that, if what people say is true about piniella, he "proves himself" at the major league level and forces lou to put him in the rotation, where he belongs.

Gallagher >>>> Marquis.

Ugh. Let Gallagher start, wherever that is. It's not worth it for him to sparingly pitch in blowouts, Cherry can do that just as effectively.

we can't recall Cherry yet. He went down for Wood.

Then bring back Mateo or Rapada, the who isn't nearly as important as long as it's not Gallagher.

From the Cubs:

HOUSTON - The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Sean

Gallagher from Triple-A Iowa. In a corresponding roster move,

left-handed pitcher Will Ohman was optioned to Iowa.

Gallagher will wear No. 36 and is available for tonight's game in

Houston at 7:05 p.m. CT.

Gallagher, 21, begins his third stint with the Cubs and has posted a

5.73 ERA (7 ER/11.0 IP) in five relief appearances with the big league

club. He picked up his first career save July 18 vs. San Francisco,

tossing the final 4.0 innings of a 12-1 victory at Wrigley Field. He

made his big league debut June 9 at Atlanta, tossing 3.1 relief innings.

Originally drafted by the Cubs in the 12th round of the 2004 Draft,

Gallagher has split time between Double-A Tennessee and Iowa this

season, combining to go 10-3 with a 3.03 ERA (29 ER/86.0 IP) in 16

starts. Most recently, he has gone 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA (2 ER/16.0 IP) in

three starts with Iowa dating to July 24, walking one and striking out

16 in that span.

Ohman, 29, is 1-4 with a 5.06 ERA (18 ER/32.0 IP) in 47 relief

appearances for Chicago this season. Selected by the Cubs in the eighth

round of the 1998 draft, Ohman owns a 4.34 ERA (75 ER/ 155.2 IP) in 211

career relief appearances. Last season, he set career-highs in games

pitched (78), innings (65.1) and strikeouts (74), finishing 1-1 with a

4.13 ERA (30 ER/65.1 IP).

Man!!!! I could've posted this much sooner but after all the excitement that was created with my 1st post thought better of it..... I am very happy for Sean and know it has been mentioned in the Chicago papers that "Lou" has wanted Sean back with the team. It has also been mentioned about the possibility of a "spot-start" which would be great for Sean.......

Absolutely it would! Give Sean our best regards, we'll be rooting for him every step of the way!

Heres to him knocking Marquis out of the rotation, we can only hope.

I was figuring he might be going into the rotation and Marshall to the bullpen. Guess not.

Why would you think that?

I know it won't happen but I would love to see Gallagher take Marquis' spot in the rotation. Marquis and his contract are a flat out bust.

I disagree....Marquis was solid early this year when Z and the rest of the team were struggling.

Forget Marquis, its Marshalls turn to start shaking. Does anyone have the line on this guy since mid June?

Since June 13

11.16 H/9 (ouch)

1.10 HR/9

2.93 BB/9

4.76 K/9

1.57 WHIP

don't have an era, but i can't imagine it's very good. component era = 5.56, FIP ERA (i think, but i don't have the 3.2 variable for this year) = 4.73.

The good news: Will Ohman can't be brought in to face righties at the ML level for the next 10 days.

The bad news: Scott Eyre is now the only lefthanded arm out of the pen. UGH.

That would be flat out stupid.

Only having 1 lefty isnt really that bad of a thing. The Cubs are going against traditional thinking by not having a loogy, which makes sense considering Wood, Weurtz, Howry, and Marmol can all get lefties out.

July 2.31 ERA 1.29 Whip

Marquis

June 5.09 ERA 1.7 Whip

July 6.29 ERA 1.51 Whip

All of the bashing should be reserved for the offense and its deranged architect, Jim Hendry.

Exactly. Its funny alot of people here including myself could see the holes in this offense, which is why we were wanting a big bat so bad, but our own GM says things like"Im hopeful Cliff Floyd finds his power stroke" "I like our offense, we have been scoring runs real well the last month"

Hey Jim try a little forward thinking, and take things as a whole, instead of a 1 month hot streak.

The Marshall bashing is so completely ridiculous that it boggles the mind.

Its getting comical now seriously. I really wonder what games they are watching with some of the comments regarding Marshall.

I'm hopeful that Bridget Fonda knocks on my front door and asks if she can sit on my lap, but I believe that planning my love life around that is probably not a good idea.
