If true, that makes me very happy. The question is will he be a starter or reliever? Last night on the game they were saying that they might bring up a spot starter, but only temporarily because Hill, Marshall, and Marquis have been taken out so early the past few games.

The bigger question is why dont they just waive or DFA Ohman? They're going to end up eating the salary anyway, no use wasting AAA space on him.

Do you mean why didn't they release him? He had to be waived and clear in order to be sent to AAA in the first place.

Ohman is under contract for next season at $1.6 million.

More Hendry nonsense.

Man, Gallagher is getting yanked around a lot.

And he loves every minute of it, as long as it's a call to the big leagues. Move is true. Ohman down. Gallagher up.

well I'm not going to miss Ohman, but Gallagher should be starting in AAA instead of pitching once a week.

Last night Pat Hughes talked about this possibility. He said a pitcher might get called up for a spot start. I wouldn't be surprised if Gallagher got a start against Colorado.

Of course, this move would have made sense a little sooner with the Cubs near the tail end of a stretch of 20 games in 20 days. Ohman's suckiness probably sealed the deal.

Send down a struggling/poor lefty reliever - check

Call up lefty reliever (Pignatiello) who has been tough on RHB and LHB in the hitting friendly PCL - uhhhh no

Instead, call up righty starter and put him in the pen - check?!

He's had some success, so I wouldn't go so far as to DFA him.

But I also wouldn't pay him $1.6 million for a season, wither.

There is no reason to DFA or waive Ohman. Hes a lefty whos proven he can get ML hitters out. He has struggled some this year, but Ohman still has value. This move also means we are going to be seeing more of Eyre, who has pitched well recently. I also wonder since Wood is down there now, they dont really feel they need a loogy, since Wood, Marmol, Wuertz, and Howry can all get lefties out.

Now to my wishful thinking, Gallagher to the rotation for a "spot start" and Marquis to the far back of the bp as the long guy.

Why? Im almost positive Ohman has options left.

IIRC, he has one option left.

Wasn't Len talking last night about bringing someone up for a "spot" start to rest the pen? Something about going to Colorado and needing some help for the pen. Now, I didn't really understand how this saves the pen when he was talking about it, so I'm not championing the idea. However, if the Cubs were going to try to start someone, Sean would be the one, I suppose.

I know it won't happen but I would love to see Gallagher take Marquis' spot in the rotation. Marquis and his contract are a flat out bust.

He's actually exceeded my expectations for this season. I have a real hard time believing that they're going to put a guy who's making $7 million a year in the bullpen.

Yes, he has one option but he has over 3 years (almost 5) of ML service time. So, he has to pass through waivers in order to be optioned. If my count is right, he was only a few days away from five years -- at which point he could decline an optional assignment.

I was figuring he might be going into the rotation and Marshall to the bullpen. Guess not.

Why would we move one of our best pitchers so far this year to the pen?

Well good for Sean, although I wish he'd take Marquis' spot in the rotation, I know that's not gonna happen.

Chances are it'll be a "double" start, with Gallagher taking over when Marquis only pitches 3-4 innings.

Ugh. Let Gallagher start, wherever that is. It's not worth it for him to sparingly pitch in blowouts, Cherry can do that just as effectively.

we can't recall Cherry yet. He went down for Wood.
