It's not just a bad night. He's just not a real good baseball player, and I believe we've reached the ceiling of his potential.

I'd be shocked if we got much more out of Pagan.

Not only is he not a good ballplayer, but he's also a very dumb ballplayer. He's forgotten how many outs there were at least 3 times this season. That's just unacceptable. He's hit a couple of key homeruns, but that's basically all he's been worth this season. You'd think with his speed that he would be above-average defensively, but he's pretty crappy in the field. He should be used as the 25th man on the team at most.

Lou seems to be pretty smart about when to sit a player. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a change in the next few days.

Just like Murton, right?

Now is the perfect time to end the Pagan experiment.

OF should be Floyd, Pie, Jones until further notice, with Derosa mixed in when Fontenot is at 2B.

As long as further notice is 2 seconds later when you replace Floyd or Jones with Murton.

I think the Cubs also need to start working in more off days for DeRosa. He's been brutal since June. They have him playing all over the field, and he's appeared in more games than every position player besides Soriano. There's no reason why DeRosa should be mixing into the OF mix at this point. Let him start at 2B, or at 3B when Ramirez sits. When Fontenot plays, then Mark can go to the bench.

DeRo is just fine. Since July 1 his SLG has slipped a little, but his OBP and BA have actually climbed a few points. I'd hardly call that brutal. With Sori out I'm sure Lou will frequently play him in RF again, as he did in April. I just hope Murton gets equal PT w/Floyd in LF.

Keep Pagan out of the lineup.

We could go

Theriot SS

DeRosa 2B

Lee 1B

ARam 3B

Cliff/Murt LF

Jones RF

Pie CF

Kendall C

Pitcher

That's not all that bad considering we just lost our 136 million dollar man. I'd much rather take this opportunity to get Pie back in CF defensively than sit around with a junky player like Pagan. Why mess around with horrible defense in both CF and LF when we can minimize that (and probably not lose much offense in the process)??

2nd half line - .266/.360/.313 that's bad. The OBP is nice, but it's not good enough to offset the nonexistent SLG. He had a ton of playing time in June, and at several challenging positions. Lou is all about resting guys, and DeRosa should be on the list. They need him for August and September, and as a guy who hasn't hit in a week and hasn't hit much more than the occasional since in 6 weeks, there's no reason to try and fill him into more spots in the lineup.

True, but he was never counted on to be one of the mashers in the lineup. His hot start SLG-wise might have spoiled some people, but the reality is that his 2007 SLG is now right in line with his career average (actually 17 points better). He simply mean-reverted.

But your point about getting rest for him is well-taken; with Sori out DeRo will probably be starting somewhere every game. I hope Lou figures out that DeRo needs rest, no matter how well-conditioned an athlete he is.

I completely forgot about Murton. Obviously, I'd want him to play a lot.

Won't happen.

I'm convinced.

If Colonitis or whatever it's called is what I think it is, someone should change the title to "Angel Pagan's Rectal Errors".

Props to whoever said Pagan crapped the bed out there in CF.

Colitis a terrible condition which weakens you substantially. I would give Pagan a break based upon this.

as a person who was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis last year, i can vouch for this statement.

colitis sucks, i wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy. you can't eat anything and the meds you have to take have terrible side effects.

it's serious, debilitating condition. get well soon, angel.

For a little over a week I've been hoping he would get something like two days off in a row or three in a week. His swing is looking long and slow to me and he's just not driving the ball like he was earlier.

Unfortunately he's probably not going to get that rest any time soon.
