Sorry I look at things without my blue kool aid glasses like you do all the time. You defend everything Hendry, Lou or whoever else in this organization, and thats fine if you like mediocrity.

it's quite apparent you use a different type of glasses. for instance, the Cubs offense disappearing, ie scoring 4 or fewer runs in a game, has happened about as often in the month of July as the RedSox, and less often than the Tigers

0-1 runs/2-3 runs/4 runs

Boston 4/5/2

Detroit 2/8/4

Cubs 3/5/4

every team's offense is susceptible to disappearing, but if it happens to the Cubs occassionally, the world is coming to an end and the entire organization needs condemnation.

i for one dont understand general managers like the one cincy's got. yeah, yeah i know griffey is going for the record, but he will never be as valuable as he is now, why not fully take advantage of it? personally, if the reds hold onto griffey, they're really dumb. id love to see him on the cubs, but even if he goes elsewhere, its probably best for the reds to try and get the most they can for him at a reasonable price.

Is it dumb if he is basically the only reason they are drawing any kind of crowds at all?

Maybe the owner doesn't want him traded, might not be fair to put it all on Krivsky.

I think it's dumb, but that's just because of my firm belief that people show up to see winning baseball, not star players (with certain exceptions, but even the Cubs play in front of empty seats in August and September if they aren't playing well). thus, the Reds should look to what will make them win more baseball games in the future if they want to maximize the number of butts in seats.

Hendry was quite forceful in saying Pie won't be moved. If they do anything at all, it won't be of the blockbuster variety. (Subject to change, with last-minute phone calls, of course.)

well so much for pushing us over the top, I guess Hendry would rather settle for being right around .500 and hopeing to make the playoffs instead of making a move to push us over the top.

I see your point, but who's to say this roster can't keep pushing to more games over .500?

Well the fact that we are getting no production out of C, and below league average at SS, CF, and RF, doesnt really instill alot of confidence. We had our big hot streak, and I think now its more likely to see win 3 lose 2 and vice versa the rest of the way.

Win 3, lose 2 = .600 winning percentage.

Just sayin... (and yes, I saw the vice-versa)

Right and I know you said you seen the vice versa which would make us a .500 team give or take a few.

And if you think this team will go .500 the rest of the way with the schedule they have, I think you're sorely mistaken.

I don't get the anger to the news that the Cubs might be sitting pat. The Cubs have added star players/bats over the last few years that were intended to get them over the hump and into the playoffs who ended up having little discernable impact on the team's fortunes (Nomar; McGriff), while in 2003 were successful by adding what were considered marginal but were integral to the team's brilliant year (Karros; Simon; Womack; excepting Lofton).

Whoah, whoah.... did you just completely gloss over Aramis Ramirez?

And Karros was on the opening day roster.

Lofton and Ramirez was definitely an impact move. Even at the time, when we didn't realize just how much Aramis would flourish.

We've all been round n' round on the Hendry analysis over the years. I think you can sum it up Hendry got off to a very good start and inexplicably did poorly during the 04' offseason, 05', and 06'. He's had several great succeses (ARam and Barrett come to mind, Lilly and Soriano look great) as well as some very well documented failures.

Cubs.com has an article up with Hendry saying he is satisfied with the club he has now and doesn't forsee them making a major move. I think that pretty much guarantees that we are standing pat. :x

Nothing Muskat ever says will make anything official. She doesn't have any inside info on Hendry.

It wasn't really what Muskat said though, most of it is just quotes from Hendry:

"I don't foresee anything large happening for us," Hendry said. "I'm very happy by the way we're playing and have a lot of faith in the guys we have."

The Cubs have climbed within a half-game of the Milwaukee Brewers in the Central Division after being as much as 8 1/2 games back on June 23.

"We're in a good spot," Hendry said. "All we needed was for Derrek Lee to start hitting the ball out of the ballpark a little more. I'm hopeful Cliff [Floyd] will do the same thing. We've got a good lineup when Cliff hits five and [Mark] DeRosa hits sixth. Angel Pagan has done a terrific job in a part-time role. Jacque [Jones] has played well the last month.

"A lot of good things are going on," Hendry said. "At the same time, if we can do something that can help us, we'll do it."

I think there is a solid chance that the Cubs won't make a major deal, just because that is the way the trade market is going. I don't put any stock into what Hendry says publicly, because he pretty much has to say that in this climate.

I'm really disappointed that Hendry is confident in Floyd, Jacque and Pagan in the outfield.

Or Kendall and Hill at catcher.

The only position I'm really upset he's not making an effort to improve is right field, because there's certainly guys out there that would be available.

Well, I don't think there are a lot of catchers out there to get at this point, but it seems like there are options at RF that would greatly improve this team.

I'm so glad we're staying put, we obviously don't need more offense tonight.

Hamels is one of the best pitchers in both leagues. That argument really doesn't work in this instance.

Team isn't exactly hovering around .500 anymore...

check the standings you are wrong. They are yet to reach 10 over, all it takes is a 3-4 game losing streak and they are right back down there.

Add a 4 or 5 game winning streak and they have the best record in the NL. Gotta look at it both ways...

Having the best record in the NL, is kind of like having the best tasting poop. Id rather push us to being a top team in the Majors, but if just hopeing to make the playoffs is ok with you then thats fine. I have a little higher standards, and its right there for the taking, but instead Hendry would rather sit back and "hope".

I love posts like this. You have absolutely NO idea what Hendry has looked into and what trade opportunities he has explored. We are still 20+ hours away from the deadline. Who knows what he may be looking at.

This isn't a defense of Hendry, but to emphatically state he's "hoping" without having any idea what he may be up to is silly.

Well said Bruno.

Keener you come off looking incredibly foolish here.

a) you don't have any proof whatsoever that "Hendry would rather sit back and hope". Much more likely is that he's working the phones aggressively looking for a deal or two that would help the team, if the price is right.

b) you don't have the foggiest idea what offers are out there, so to criticize the Cubs if they stand pat is just utterly absurd. Standing pat would be far, far smarter than sending Marmol for Dye, or Pie for Laird.

Whatever Hendry or anyone else has said so far about being happy with the guys they've got, blah blah is just a bunch of cliche. Of course they're going to say that. It doesn't mean a thing.

Ok so when does it come more than cliche? Tomorrow after 3 pm when the deadline has passed, and the Cubs have made no deals? I will be the first one to say i was wrong if Hendry makes a move, but I dont see it happening. He thinks we are fine with Cliff Floyd in right because he is "hopeful his power will come back". Hes happy with Jones "because hes had a hot month". Hes happy with Angel. Those quotes are straight from Hendrys mouth, and I truly think he believes it. Like I said if Im wrong Ill admit it, but I doubt Im wrong.
