Barrett was placed on the 15-day DL with "concussion like symptons".

There is a joke in there somewhere.

Keeps getting worse for Barrett. Man, this is a terrible year for the guy.

And, fortunately for him, he is a free agent after this season. He can probably fire his agent and just sit back and wait for the bidding war to begin!

naw. instead, many will continue their sudden change of heart about the value of defense out of a catcher. easier to continue the bitch parade that way.

good throw today jason, but the throw is supposed to go to the SS/2nd baseman, not the CF like it usually does.

Good call

The trade sucks, but I won't blame Hendry. It was a sell low, high reward tht could've worked real nicely. Unfortunately it didn't.

It was a smart move that didn't pan out.

It was terrible move laughed at by many at the time it happened. It was never a smart move.

I never considered it a terrible move. We got rid of a crappy catcher with a crappy history and got in return a crappy catcher with a great history. It did have potential to turn out well for us. Whether Hendry(aka Hendry's scouts) saw something that said Kendall would turn it around, or if this was sheer good luck, it turned out to be a very good move for us.

The usual script for this type of move is Kendall has a good month, Hendry signs him to an extension than he stops hitting completely.

If he came at a reasonable price and he's backed up by a cheap option like Soto then it's not so bad.

I can't believe that Kendall actually hit a home run today. It's a miracle.

Note: I'm in no way saying the guy sucks, just that he rarely hits home runs anymore.

Kendall has looked pretty patient and selective recently. I haven't been expecting home runs, so working the count and getting on base have been good enough for me. I don't expect it to continue, but it is fun to watch.

.290/.400/.410 with an OPS + of 109.

Not bad at all with the Cubs, but looking at his regression numbers, this is total lightning in a bottle. I for one an happy WE finally a whitesox/cardinal-like lightning in a bottle situation.

I'm still wondering why Kendall continues to bat in the eighth spot especially with Soriano out. Theriot and Kendall should be 1-2 in the order with Jacque lower down.

Based on their recent play, I'd be real happy with either one in the second spot in the order for the time being.

Well then, I guess I retract my statement that Jacque should be moved lower down. Either way, Kendall deserves to be higher in the order than he is. I'm really liking that Kendall's BABIP isn't ungodly high. I know .358 is high but his stats are going to completely plummet if that comes down to the norm.

Yeah but those numbers show that since the 30th of July, Kendall has had far more patience at the plate, so he's clearly the better candidate out of the two to bat in the second spot according to frontloaded lineup construction, OBP-wise.

Totally agree. I think Kendall is perfect for the 2 spot.

I would have to say I'd prefer Kendall in the 2 spot with Jacque's power lower down but I'm not going to complain about Jacque being there as long as he's hitting well.

The new Kendall, yes. The pre-Cubs 2007 Kendall isn't. It really looks like the trade has rejuvenated this guy. He looks like the Kendall many Cubs fans wanted in the early 2000s.

Where are all those people that hated this deal?

For whatever it's worth, Jerry Blevins has struggled a bit for AA Midland since joining the A's system. 17 hits in 15.2 innings, 4.59 ERA, though his K:BB ratio is still excellent. His BABIP is .395, so I'm guessing most of it has just been bad luck.

I hated it at first. I disliked it when I realized the Cubs weren't going to have to pay him much, and I love it now,

I was kind of "eh" about it to begin with, but wanted to give it a chance...I just remember having a long multi-page thread discussion with a couple unnamed posters who just thought it was a season killing stupid move after his first 4 games....

He's been a really really big help in Soriano's absence. No power obviously, but he gets on base and catches alright (no he can't throw)...but considering the .231/.238 line that Barrett has put up with the Padres we got a steal.

BTW...What the hell happened to Barrett..those are numbers Neifi would blush at.
