For those starting to drool at the possibility:

Dunn is a career .302 hitter at Wrigley with 17 homers, the 2nd most he's hit in active stadiums (Cinergy Field doesn't count anymore and GAB is obviously number one).

i've already been sold on the guy for a long time.

Still will not get my hopes up, it would be too awesome, and Hendry doesn't usually do awesome things.

I don't know about that. He's come up big with mid-season trades...

yes true, Ramirez/Lofton was great, and Nomar was insanely awesome at the time it happened.

Right and quite honestly those were the only times we had a chance to go to the playoffs. Both times he came through...

At the time though, those holes were huge and Hendry knew it. This year he seems to be okay with Pagan/Floyd in the OF. And he has a qustionable amt. of money for next year

99% sure this deal doesn't go through, unless we are giving up such good prospects that the Reds are taking on a bunch of Dunn's remaining salary this year.

I bet someone posted that diary because they knew an NSBB reader would find it and start a 50 page thread. He is now laughing at us as his dream becomes a reality.

what a sad, sad dream.

The next post will be someone who saw the Dunner at O'Hair with a bunch of suitcases and when asked why he's not in Cincy he'll reportedly smile and say "watch the news tonight".

Every year this happens and it's been Dunn already a couple of times (coming with Danny Graves two years ago).

I'll gladly eat crow on this one, but I don't expect to have to.

Oh, the good times. You nailed it. =D> This is the same type of story that comes out every year prior to the trade deadline.

Do you really think he's ok with floyd\Pagan? C'mon! The only thing holding him back is the sale of the Cubss

i highly, Highly, HIGHLY doubt that 99% of the players out there are privy to the machinations of their GM's, much less days before a trade. people really think Krivsky called Dunn into his office and said, "hey buddy, we're probably gonna trade you. Check out this offer I got from the Cubs! Wicked, right? But just lay low, stay in the lineup, don't telal anyone...."

I do actually. Hendry likes Floyd alot -- he's one "his guys." They're not great and he probably understands that -- hut I doubt he sees them as significant holes, though.

i agree that it's the Next Year $ tha's playing the biggest part

Hasn't been mentioned yet, BUT why would they trade him to us before our series with them begins?? IF this is true, they would wait, at the very least, until after this upcoming series.

Why?

I actually saw Dunn at Lambert (apparently for a connecting flight to Chicago... don't know why they needed a connecting flight though) and I asked him why he wasn't in Cincinnati and he punched me in the face.

Sure makes a lot of sense to me.

I'm in the same boat. I'd love to see it happen, but I wont believe it til Bruce Miles clues us in or the Cubs.com website makes an official announcement.

I'm not buying it until Reds44 states that a trade is eminent.

Why does Reds44 always get crap? The rumor he posted was TRUE. Get over yourself.

As to this rumor, where the hell would they put him? I mean no doubt, it would be cause for celebration, but WHERE?! Right field?!

Maybe move Soriano back to center and Dunn to left? Who knows.

Anyway, this is why I LOVE the trading deadline. :D

PS. w00t! 6,000th post! :o

Serious why or sarcastic why? They wouldn't trade him to a team they are about to play and have him turn around and hurt them right away would they? In the division no less? I mean, I know its happened before and probably will again, and I know Krivsky isn't bright, but it just doesn't ring true to me.

I'm pretty sure they talk to their players about the possibility of being traded. You can't just drop the bomb on the guy without warning.

It would be incredibly stupid to hold up a trade for that reason.

It would also be incredibly stupid to trade a player if you don't have to yet, i.e the deadline isn't till after the series. But excuse me for suggesting it, just seemed a bit off to me.

That's a valid thought, but you also have to look at it from the prospective that Cincy might want to get their new players asap and not just beat around the bush with it.

They won't be getting NEW players, they'll be getting players we don't want hopefully--Jones, Eyre, etc.

They won't just give away Dunn... and even if they do accept jones and eyre, they would at least have to believe they could help the team some how and would want them soon.

The Reds are out of it. By trading Dunn, they are waving the white flag anyways. What do they care?

What if Dunn gets hurt in those few games he is playing against the Cubs and the Reds lose out on a package of prospects because they didn't want him to hurt them right away.

Right on, that's the worst flaw in the whole rumor. No way a GM is giving a player updates on deals.
