I love Lou!

I never want to commit to a manager because they ultimately break my heart. But Lou does so many things that I might do, and are somewhat untraditional, that I find myself getting attached.

great move letting gallagher get some work in...and now if you can get eyre to pitch as well that would be ridiculously awesome...save the important arms for later

I would've left Z in for one more, but I'm certainly not gonna crucify Lou for this. It's a smart move.

Yea, he probably could have stayed in one more, but with Lilly going tomorrow and the Giants being the Giants, it's a relatively safe bet that the bullpen won't get a whole lot of work, so giving them the extra inning today should be fine.

Do any statheads have how long that inning went in minutes and/or pitches?

44 pitches... dunno about minutes

Don't know if you (erik) saw it but a couple pages back I said that Len and Bob said it was a half-hour half-inning before Koyie's AB so it was probably around 35 minutes total for the bottom of the fifth.

walks

kill

ya

It's about time they started killing the opponent for a change.

it's not really about that... the reason it doesn't "happen" to opponents is because the Cubs don't have patient hitters. The Cubs are 25th in baseball in walks drawn. They need an opposing pitcher to be wild in order to draw a lot of walks.

Fortunately, the pitching staff isn't walking everyone in the league like last year, though.

This lead prevents Z from getting a QS.

Lewis out to CF. 1 down

I wonder Hendry will use that in his contract negotiations. "Zambrano couldn't even get a quality start with a 9 run lead!"

Would love to see Gallagher go the distance....

I see no reason why he shouldn't. It's 4 innings with a 9 run lead.

the long stretches of sitting around doing nothing probably haven't done much for his stamina.

I wonder if Zambrano's lack of hustle on his last at-bat played any importance in Lou's decision to pull him before he finished 5 innings. Or was that probably irrelevant? I actually didn't see his at-bat, it went by so fast...

It's been awhile since Z had a sub-100 pitch game.

Considering we're going to need Zambrano down the stretch, I really like this move.

dusty would've had him go for the complete game shutout, because that's what Z would've wanted

Nice quick inning for Sean. Send him out there for one more then get Scotty Eyre some work.

Even though he pitched yesterday, I wouldn't mind seeing Wuertz get some more work (just an inning) in a non pressure situation. He just hasn;t looked great to start the second half. It might help him out a bit.
