WoW--it is amazing how dumb some of the national media is--and they just keep piping off about topics they have no clue about. On the morning show Bayless was ripping on Piniella saying that the "turnaround" was just luck and Piniella's tirade was unprofessional and unwarranted. He said that his numerous Chicago sources say that the players dont like Piniella because they felt he was calling them out.

The irony is that he may be right about the players attitudes but he is too dumb to realize that this is exactly why Lou had to do what he did. We all knew this team needed a drastic turnaround in attitude and Lou said enough is enough. Bayless is just too dumb or not paying enough attention to realize that it is not just luck--the Cubs are playing BETTER Baseball because they have that fear that if they dont produce they might not like the reprocussions--I think that is what they refer to as old-school managing!

Any other thoughts???

Skip Bayless enough said. He has a personal grudge against the Cubs, and hes a loud mouth babbling bafoon plain and simple. Basically, whatever he says take the exact opposite, and thats probably more right then this jackass.

Bayless is a moron. Cubs probably don't win the game last night without the hit and run call by Piniella.

Or the Pitch out on the squeeze

I'm not sure that Piniella's rant had a huge effect on the team, but I can get behind any "Skip Bayless is a moron" thread.

I think the beanball war with the Braves and the fist fight with the Padres provided more team-building than Lou's argument.

It's amazing to me that the hottest manager in all of baseball is being criticized by anyone. Even posters on this board are still upset with him.

At some point, I just step back and realize there's nothing wrong with Lou -- it's the fans and media who have no clue.

No manager is perfect. Lou has made some good moves lately, but he still has his faults. Bunting with DeRo last night, to get to a guy hitting .220? Stupid

I agree. However, people ignore the good moves he makes, and then just focus on one or two bad ones and then decide he sucks. I see this happening literally all the time, with every manager. It's overkill, and ridiculous.

When things are going good the manager usually gets too much of the credit, and when things are going bad, the manager usually gets too much blame. Its comes with the job

Being a manager isn't really a skilled position, it's mostly making decisions. Aside from those that are truly out of the ordinary(like the pitchout last night that has received plenty of praise), managers don't get credit for "good moves" because that's what's supposed to happen. Lou doesn't get kudos for not moving Zambrano to the bullpen, and in the same way he doesn't get kudos for actually bringing in a reliever in at the correct time.

Its overkill to say Lou is perfect; its overkill to say he stinks. he's good, and personally I had and have no problem with him calling these guys out. They had it way too easy under The Dust Man and need to be held accountable when they play like crap.

Are there any other cubs haters out there whining and moaning because the cubs are winning? And more importantly, are there any video feeds of it. :P

I don't understand how Bayless even has a job.... Dude is a major douche..

Bayless is a fascinating case study.

It's clearly evident that with such a saturation of talking heads in sports today, the only way to separate yourself from the crowd is to come up with some unique and edgy schtick. Jim Rome, Stephen A Smith, etc etc all got where they are because of style, not substance.

For whatever reason, Bayless has adopted "loud mouth babbling bafoon idiot moron" as his personal schtick. And amazingly enough, it's kinda working for him, considering that, as you note, he's still got a job.

I'd dispute that this phrase could be used to describe roughly 90% of the talking heads on ESPN.

I think you are exactly right. QFT

Lou has made only a couple of bad moves: benching Pie when he started to struggle, forcing the Barrett trade (by most accounts) and a few sketchy in-game decisions. For the most part, he's been much much better than I could've hoped. I really didn't think the Cubs would be this good at this point of the season, so that's all I could've asked for from him.

In short, he's got a job precisely because he's a douche.

More like, he's got a job because he's chosen to portray a douche.

I don't know what the guy's like in real life, but his whole act looks very contrived and intentionally over the top.
