The Padres reportedly inquired about the availability of Felix Pie and were told by the Cubs he is as untouchable as it gets.

 

Even though he has struggled this season, Pie is the future in center for the Cubs. Still, he needs to be returned to Triple-A soon if he's not going to play over Angel Pagan.

I'm all for trading Pie for the right deal. I don't want to give him away, but if we could land a stud pitcher or big bat, I don't see why you wouldn't trade him away.

I'd trade him in a deal for a good player with more than a couple years left under team control.

Wow the Padres have been inquiring about everyone, Cub or not Cub. I think they really think (and rightly so) that this is the year to make a run for them.

 

Maybe Towers though that the Barrett trade was a feeler trade to get the Cubs-Padres pipeline built.

Not too many guys shred AAA to a 1.000 OPS at age 22, especially guys with Pie's physical tools.

It was already built last year with the Williamson and Walker trades.

There's an adjustment period for most minor leaguers at the big leagues and, playoff chase or not, the Cubs will benefit more this season and in the future if Felix is starting in CF over Jones or Pagan.

Exactly. This isn't Ronny Cedeno where he sucked hard for several months. The dude had a bad 2 week stretch, let him play out please.

I tremble with trepidation saying this, since I haven't checked the stats, but it also seems to me that Pie is enough of a + player defensively that if ANYONE is going to be carried for defensive purposes, it should be him. Especially since he needs playing time to develop and doesn't have much to learn at AAA.

i said play him. attempt to upgrade elsewhere (RF, SS, C) and play Pie. he's always adjusted well after some time and i expect nothing less at the MLB level. he needs to be out there though.
