I'm just going to assume Guzman is toast. When Kerry Wood beats you back from a rehab assignment, that's not good.

To be fair, he did have a head start on him of like a month.

Wood went 1.0 IP with 1 H 0 R/ER 1 K and 0 BB with 1 GO and 0 FO.

He will pitch again on Saturday and then barring any setbacks, is expected to move to Peoria.

i never assume that wood will make his next scheduled appearance. it's sort of a bonus if he does.

Wood hit 95 on the gun today. Here is a really good article discussing Wood. He has lost 48 lbs overall

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19859205/

He refuses to give up on the game. Why?

"Honestly, my son,'' Wood said. "I've got an 18-month-old son and I want him to be around it, I want him to see what I did.''

How many times does this happen to me, but I still get excited thinking about watching Woody in a cubs uniform? Even though I should no better. There's something romantic (not sexual, romantic as in romanticism) about it.

Am I the only one?

I disagree, Wood's career has a Sturm und Drang quality that is undeniable.

I don't know, Woody is pretty sexy.

I do have a man-crush on him. DeRosa's his replacement til he comes back.

This is another example of why I love the guy.

I'm not cultured enough to know that reference. Explanation?

I refuse to get my hopes up for Wood until he's pitching effectively in Chicago.

Don't lie to yourself vance. There's a small part of you that has your hopes up for what our pen could be if he came back blazing (not blazed). It's inevitable. You're a Cubs fan.

It would be the best comeback story I've actually witnessed, so yea.

Its still hard to get too overly excited when the article clearly states that he still has a tear in his rotator cuff....

Yeah, there is that one small factor...

Man, I love KW, but it breaks my heart every time he has a set-back. I want him to walk away w/ his dignity & health...

I read that and thought "here we go again."

Kerry Wood has that Rod Beck quality, where I can picture him giving it every thing he has to get the Cubs to the World Series, whether or not it would re injure his arm. There is no question he has heart.

Maybe it's the pessimist in me, but this part of the Trib article scares me...

Trainer Brett Fischer, who has worked with Wood for two years, said he would have bet his house a month ago that the pitcher would have to undergo surgery. In fact, Fischer said he had talked to the Cubs about the operation and asked for four more days of therapy.

Suddenly, the pain disappeared. Fischer said he has no idea why.

Anyone else worried it could suddenly reappears as suddenly as it disappeared?

Sorry to bring negativity into this thread.

No, it's a cause of concern I'll say. However with those games he has pitched thus far, and hasn't experienced any setbacks, one has to wonder if he's over the hurdle as of this point. Normally wouldn't that type of a injury would be sore/hurting by the following next days?

Just once, I want to see him come out of the bullpen during a Cubs/Cards game at Wrigley and start mowing guys down, just to see the crowd go berserk.

Just once.

Did I mention the part where the Cubs are above .500 at the time and he doesn't have shoulder surgery two weeks later?

Kerry had a sitdown with Jon Garland.

I read that and thought the same thing.

Pitching arms are funny. I remember a story about Satchel Paige, the exact opposite of Kerry Wood, who pitched into his late 40s, where Satch had horrible pain in his arm and told his wife he was thinking of retiring and told his manager that he wouldn't be able to go for his next start and then woke up the next day and never felt better.

Wood, though, while I'm pulling for him, I need to see more than a handful of innings in Mesa. I say, if he is going good right now, the Cubs might as well bring him up to the bigs as soon as possible 'cause you never know how long this is going to last.
