Wood will be pitching out of the bullpen when he returns and will need just a few minor league rehab appearances before being activated from the disabled list. He could join the major league roster before the end of July.

That will be one helluva standing O when he makes his first Wrigley appearance. Can't wait ... just the kind of boost this team will need down the stretch.

It would be like trading for an All Star.

Back in April I said I'd be shocked if Kerry pitched more than 10 innings in the bigs this year. Still don't see any reason to change that opinion.

Another hilarious joke but where's the towel reference? Maybe you and vance should enter Last Comic Standing; whoever trots out the same joke the most times wins.

I just can't help but imagine the comments about Wood from this board if he was in a different organization.

probably lots of jokes about the comeback, claims of overrated, etc.

I understand why he's popular with a lot of fans, but he hasn't contributed anything of value in 3 years.

How many Rich Harden jokes do you see around here?

Or, until this year, Josh Beckett.

I just think it would be different, thats all I am saying.

I'd love to see him come back and stay healthy, I'm just not confident that is going to happen.

If he doesn't, I don't think there is anyway he is retained next year.

We have won one playoff series in the last 100 years and Kerry is the main reason for it. That is why he can do nothing for three years yet still be the best.

I sure wish Prior was granted that reprieve as well, but you're spot on.

In my mind he is. Even the great Greg Maddux didn't do what these two did. Those two almost own the world series, if only Z was one year older. His '04 with those two guys.

Ah, Woody.

If he comes back and can be productive, that's great.

If not, nothing lost.

For some reason during saturday's game I was thinking that I missed cheering for Kerry Wood. I don't think i'll ever see him pitch again in the majors, but oddly I missed him. Its strange how the focus of this teams talent have both disapeared.

Disappeared because of Dusty and his insane clown posse pitching them 140 per start!

Me too. He just fun to watch, espically if he's on.

Last night the kids make me watch some disney channel movie where this baseball player kid wants to cook instead. One scene he's watching the food network but when his dad comes home he switches to the baseball game. The father asks him

"How's Kerry Wood look?"

A single tear ran down my cheek.

Ha! I seriously miss Wood. Gladitor mentality trapped in a broken down body. It's a shame...

Per Rotoworld:

Kerry Wood (arm) is expected to throw in a Rookie League game at Mesa, Ariz. in the next few days.

"Get his feet wet," general manager Jim Hendry said. "And if that goes well, we'll continue with his rehab program the next couple of weeks. … Let's be guardedly optimistic. We've all been down this path before, but when he left here the last homestand, he had a little bounce in his step, and he has thrown well in Arizona since he left here." Wood could join the Cubs' bullpen in early August if his rehab continues to go smoothly.

This is what I could find from Rotoworld:

Angel Guzman-R- Cubs Jul. 8 - 2:12 pm et

Angel Guzman pitched a perfect inning Saturday in his first rehab appearance for the Rookie AZL Cubs.

Guzman has missed five weeks with a strained elbow ligament. He could rejoin the Cubs as a reliever later this month.

Carrie Muskat said he was slowed in his rehab - don't know what that means. He should have thrown again since Saturday if all was well, though. :? Doesn't make sense to have a week-long gap between rehab outings for a reliever.
