Well, the Cubs scored 4 runs off of Maholm on 5/10 but lost because Z gave up 6 runs (4 earned). I was at that game. Z had a throwing error, which resulted in a run, and Matt Murton had a fielding error on the would-be third out of the inning (damn ball hit off the heel of his glove and a run scored).

 

The Cubs should be able to handle this guy. Hopefully, Marquis can keep the red-hot hitting LaRoche in check as well as keep Jason Bay in his funk.

It seems like a strange coincidence that, in 84 games, about 40% of them would end ith Cub pitchers and opposing pitchers having thrown the same number of pitches. Do you have stats on this from other years?

 

That's a little bit of a misnomer, because I round all pitch counts to the nearest 10 to keep things a little more manageable. So, when I say they've thrown the same number of pitches, it's always plus/minus 10.
