After pitching yesterday, he'll now miss the last four games before the all-star break and the first one after.

Some punishment.

MLB's punishment system for starting pitchers is a joke.

Indeed. They should mandate a missed start during a stretch of no off days.

What the crap. He would've done that anyway, punishment or not. The punishment for pitchers should be for games they'd be scheduled to start, not games in general. A 5-game suspension is really a one-game suspension. This isn't even a one-gamer because of the ASB.

If he wins the final all star vote I assume that he will be unable to participate?

He won it.. this is an interesting question. It would be very funny if Zambrano took his spot due to suspension.

Kenny Rogers still pitched despite his suspension 2 years ago for the cameraman incident.

This is blasphemy!

On a more serious note Lee should have just dropped his appeal and started serving it when we came to play the Nats, however, if it gets reduced to say 3 games I will not complain. Besides, with the way the Pirates are playing I am glad he is still available.

When Lee serves his suspension, it might be a great time to call up Soto since he has been getting some 1st base duties in Iowa overcoming his injuries.

We don't get an extra player during that time, so someone would have to be sent down for that to happen.

This is pure BS. With the days off for the All-Star break the Padres can reorder the rotation since everyone will be rested, and the only "punishment" Young gets is that he'll have to start the second game back instead of the first. And if he pitches in the game he might have been moved back to the second game after the break anyway. Basically he got off free. Given this MLB MUST reduce Lee's suspension to no more than three games.

Personally, I think that a player shouldn't have the right to withdraw an appeal and start serving the suspension at his convenience. If a player appeals it should be mandatory that it go to a hearing, and MLB should be able to decide when the suspension starts after an appeal to ensure that the suspension is actually meaningful. What a joke this is.

Young = Wells & Peavy's lap dog. And a liar.

He'll always be spit to me, I don't care how well he pitches.

And I still fail to understand why Lee hasn't done the same.

Because Lee will actually have to miss games when he serves his suspension whereas Young won't have to now.

Exactly. Cubs will have a tough time putting together enough run support without Lee for up to 5 games.

Young doesn't miss anything.

And I think Ward will do better than Soto at first anyway. This is exactly why we signed him.
