I went with Soriano.

I had to disqualify Ramirez-he isn't head and shoulders above anybody else, and he has missed 20 games already. It's hard to be a teams MVP when you miss 1/4 of the season.

Lee, Marquis, and Lilly made sure the Cubs stayed afloat in April and May.

Soriano and Z have been the catalysts for this resurgence.

I also considered DeRosa. 4th best hitter on the team, and his ability to move around to different positions and play them well has allowed Lou to play the matchups (which makes all his teammates stats look better because they don't have to face pitchers they don't hit well). It also has helped immensely with covering injuries, and if the Cubs hadn't signed a second baseman who can move around Fontenot would never have emerged either.

Soriano though has been a touch better. Leadoff homeruns (at least one of which was a game-winner and 1 or 2 others that were the key runs in a low-scoring win), and the outfield assists have really picked up his pitcher at times. It's no coincidence that when Soriano really got going on the 3rd of June, so did the team.

I went with Sori, but him and A-ram are really co-MVP's IMO. I'm guessing that A-ram's homer last week put him over the top for a lot of ppl.

maybe he should

WPA

2.57 - Aramis Ramirez

1.21 - Derrek Lee

1.19 - Mark DeRosa

0.72 - Alfonso Soriano

0.72 - Angel Pagan

Of course WPA is useless. Since 90% of the world believe in clutch hitting as a possessed ability, then Aramis should be dominating this poll.

Ramirez: .312/.358/.568/.926

Soriano: .308/.354/.542/.896

How does Lee only have 2 votes?

lee is scoring runs but not driving many in. Seems to me he rarely hits with anyone on

ETA: Wrong, he hits .367 with runners on

With runners on: .367/.451/.504/.955

I'd say Lee has had the best first three months out of everyone in that lineup.

I refuse to vote because there is no way to vote for DeRosa.

.287/.365/.455 is not quite as good as Lee, Ramirez and Soriano, but DeRosa's value is also in his ability to play multiple positions well and give our key players rest and fill in for them when they're injured (Aramis). I fully expect one of the other three (or Z) to be the end of season MVP, but right now I have to say DeRosa.

Some might say Soriano missed the first 1/4 of the season too.

Yeah, but if you say he missed 1/4 of the season then you have to say he has been a lot better than Ramirez for the other 3/4 of the season :D

It's close between Lee and Ramirez. I went with Ramirez. He has the highest OPS on the team, and has been the Cubs best overall player in the first half. Soriano has contributed to our winning recently, but he also contributed to our losing in April/May.

Incidentally, I bet Soriano wins the cubs.com poll.

He's winning it by a mile, so your prediction was correct.
