So, why are you claiming Murton is so good then....he's not a major leaguer.

I said he's my favorite, and he is good he just needs more playing time, something cedeno had plenty of last year and still sucked while murt led the team in BA

Yeah, and then Murt completely blew during 2007 in the majors. Why does he get room for aches and pains and Cedeno doesn't?

And honestly, how good do you think Theriot and Murton can be? I wanna hear this.

good to close to great starters, neither will be great.

i never made the aches argument for Murt.

What in the blue hell has Theriot done to make you think that? Murton I can understand, kinda. Theriot though. Tell me why he's going to be anything more than a decent utility player. Tell me why he didn't get a regular stay in the majors until his age 27 season.

Bad scouting, good hitting gives me the idea that and speed and D

Punctuation is your friend.

Not that he doesn't deserve a warning, Raisin, but Vance (for all intents and purposes) called him an idiot in the first post you quote. I'm not defending murton1 or attacking Vance, but it just seems like murton1 isn't the only one out of line in this thread.

Enough with the name-calling and insults.

Murton1, you're new here, I suggest you check out the NSBB Member Guidelines which is the link in my sig. Consider this a warning.

You are correct, GR, but I believe Raisin's first sentence was directed at everyone.

You've linked these two several times in this thread. I don't think they are even in the same ballpark as far as potential.

Yes, since murton1 is newer I thought I'd point out the link and his two posts that violated rules. But the rules go for everyone and murton1 wasn't the only one violating them.

I didn't realize I was. I won't do that again. And no Murt and Theriot are nowhere near each other in skill or potential. Most everything I've posted has been a joke, now I get serious.

lol, I'm wondering what your definition of 'close to great' is?

.320, .400, in BA and OBP

That's just frigging laughable. The highest batting average Theriot has ever put up at any level (AA in this case) over a full season is .304. The highest OBP? .367 in high A ball. So what in the blue hell is going to make a 27 year old suddenly become a .400 OBP guy in the majors when he didn't even come close to that in the minors?

Murton won't do it either, but I'm not willing to laugh you out of the building for suggesting that.

Yes it is, it's a joke, Theriot will be a decent starter at best.

You're either really bad at making it clear you're joking or you're backtracking hardcore. I'm leaning heavily towards the latter.

+1

Nope just a long joke, I stand by my opinion on Murt, and as for Theriot, he can still make it as a starter just not a good one a decent one.

Okay, I believe you.

PS Cesar Izturis has a lot of talent. I'm gonna go on a tangent about it for the next week or so. But, if everyone disagrees with me, it was just a joke. Got it everyone? Good.

I never said Theriot was great.

Also, for future reference:

Joke /dʒoʊk/ Pronunciation Key - [johk] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation noun, verb, joked, jok·ing.

–noun

1. something said or done to provoke laughter or cause amusement, as a witticism, a short and amusing anecdote, or a prankish act: He tells very funny jokes. She played a joke on him.

2. something that is amusing or ridiculous, esp. because of being ludicrously inadequate or a sham; a thing, situation, or person laughed at rather than taken seriously; farce: Their pretense of generosity is a joke. An officer with no ability to command is a joke.

I suppose the second definition applies somewhat.

He does have a lot of talent. Its just for something other than playing baseball. Maybe he impersonates Harry off of Harry and the Hendersons really well, or is the best glass blower in the country.

You said he's going to be a .320/.400 guy. That's pretty terrific.

that's good, and anything is possible, he could do it once but not regularly.

I was looking for his name yesterday, when I made my 'Vote for Raisin' banner. I wanted 'Vote for Edward K'.

I LOLed all over my keyboard!

Does anyone remember the question that Edward K asked in that Cubs mailbag? I tried doing a google search, but came up empty.

I know it was about Neifi, but I can't remember what. It was pretty great though.

Cedeno or Theriot. Theriot or Cedeno.

This is a terrible discussion to be having for several reasons.

1) There are three players on the Cub's roster that are basically taking up a spot while not contributing. None of the three are named Ryan Theriot.

2) This team needs help in the bullpen. Not the middle infield. The Cubs are playing good baseball with DeRosa, Fontenot, Theriot, and even Izturis every now and then up the middle. If one of those four are expendible, it's Izturis.

3) Ryan Theriot has been a solid contributor to this team. He had a bad slump, went to the bench, and now looks like he is back on track with his swing.

4) Theriot is 27. Cedeno is 24 (I guess). Cedeno does have an upside that is more desirable than a 27 year old breaking in, but at this point in his career Ronny has not shown really anything to illustrate he's ready to hit in the MLs.
