One good start doesn't make everyday player material. Considering Theriot's overall line and his minor league career, he should remain a bench player, where he can contribute to the team instead of eating ABs.

I was at the game behind home plate and his swing looked good.

I don't know how players don't hit Dave Bush harder because he has the worst windup in the majors.

He starts and stops and throws.

Yup 3-4 with 3 doubles and 3 runs, keep it going.

Now we just need Murton :!:

with floyd playing how he is, i dont think murton has a place in the OF

One game does not a starting player make.

That said, his plate appearances and swing did look sharper this time than it has recently, and Lou talked about that as well after the game. That said, even with an improved appearance, barring a total miracle, he's simply not an everyday answer at SS or 2nd.

And as for Murton...he looked so brutal defensively in RF. Is he playing LF down in the minors?

Agreed. I think Murton's best asset to the Cubs is his trade value at this point.

Theriot obviously doesn't have any power. For him to be worth playing, he has to keep his OBP up at least over .330. Even that isn't great, but it's not terrible considering he's a SS. He's still in his first full season and bound to have slumps and struggles. I think it's too early to write him off completely, given the fact that there just aren't that many offensive powerhouse SS out there. If he gets hot again like he was at the end of last year and the start of this one, his OBP will climb into an area of respectability for a SS. He also steals bases fairly effectively.

It is obvious Theriot is never going to be an all-star SS, but he's cheap and we could and have paid more for less production. If the Cubs got an impact bat in RF, and Pie started playing up to his potential, I think the team could live with Theriot at SS and still be a winning team.

That said, if Theriot's OBP continues to hover around the .320 mark, Cedeno should probably get another shot, as his ceiling projects a lot higher than Theriot's does.

Neifi was a demigod with a bat for almost a solid month.

Yuck.

Really? I don't remember that.

I still stand by my opinion, however that Neifi was a decent 25th man. The problem was that he was used more that a 25th man should be used.

very funny, there's no doubt he isn't a gold glove or even close but he still seems an everyday player to me. and to professional scouts

And then he picked up where he left off and hit .368/.403/.559 in 68 at-bats in April of 05. Once May came though, it was over (although he did have a very good August of 05 as well).

Actually, the Neifster had 3 very good stretches with us in 2005........

Perez AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS

What transpired in between was about as close to absolute zero as you can get.
