Whoa !

It's just like Office Space. Make a mistake, and you'll have many people telling you about it.

Indeed.

It's just that we're putting those on the front of ALL the TPS reports now, BEFORE they go out. So we'll get you another copy of that memo, Fred.

I hate when there's no day game to divert my attention from class. Now all there is left to do in here is fall asleep.

You can always follow the Mesa Cubs game Link Cubs are up 1-0 after 2.

Edit - Ryan Harvey sighting!

Sweet, thanks!!

Wow, that's quite the lineup of opposition pitching we face. If none of our starters crap the bad, we should have a very good chance of seeing the Cubs take all of these.

Hell, apparently we can even let one starter get away with crapping the bed and still pull out a win.

Duke was put on the DL yesterday (good for the Cubs-never like to see a player get injured, but the Cubs have been just awful against him). It's likely to be Shane Youman on Sunday (he got called up from the minors and will be taking Duke's slot tomorrow night against the Brewers). Youman is a left-hander who does not have good numbers at all on the season, but 3 of the last 4 starts have been excellent.

It's too bad it's not Chacon-look at what Ramirez has done against him.

9/15, 5 HR, 3 2B, 1 BB

Hadn't heard that.... but my friends at ESPN didn't get the memo either. They still have Duke listed as the starter for next Sunday.

Yeah-leave it to ESPN to be late.

One last note on Youman-he was also on that LSU championship team with Theriot, Fontenot, and Brad Hawpe.

I also like the Cards' upcoming schedule:

Arizona 8:10 PM Looper (6-6) Webb (8-5)

Arizona 8:10 PM Wellemeyer (2-1) Johnson (4-3)

Arizona 7:15 PM Thompson (6-3) Hernandez (5-5)

Arizona 7:15 PM Wainwright (6-7) Davis (5-9)

San Francisco 8:10 PM Maroth (5-2) Lowry (8-6)

San Francisco 7:15 PM Looper (6-6) Lincecum (3-2)

San Francisco 2:15 PM Wellemeyer (2-1) Zito (6-8)

I wouldn't imagine they are the favorite going into ANY of those games...

If the Cubs were to go into the all star break at 47-40, or even 46-41, my excitement for the 2nd half is going to go through the roof.

No kidding, mine too. For now, I'm not getting too worked up yet.

Still, anything's better than actually being in the park, which must easily be the worst gameday experience in all of sports.

You have never been to Tampa Bay for a Devil Rays game then. I've been to RFK for several games, and the experience doesn't stink nearly as bad as Tampa, which plays in a bloody convention center.

I've been to 21 ballparks around baseball, and while RFK is in the bottom 5, it's not the worst.

Don't forget we are chasing Arizona in the WC race (sorta)

Capuano vs. Youman

Vargas vs. Snell

Sheets vs. Gorzelanny

Bush vs. Bacsik

Suppan vs. Simontacchi

Capuano vs. Bowie

sweet. I'll be at the Saturday game (and didn't realize WSH was a 4 game series) so thought Marquis was going that game

True enough...however...I'll start worrying about hoping the WC teams lose more when the birds are 6-7 games behind us....3 is still too close for comfort as far as I'm concerned.

Yes but Gorzelanny gets negated by the fact that he's a lefthander (which the Brewers KILL) and the fact that he is going up against Sheets.

Yeah. I think tonight and Wednesday nights are the two best chances for the Pirates to steal a game (Wednesday night the best one).

For the Cubs, their hardest games are going to be Thursday (where Bergmann has been quite good going up against Marshall) and then probably Wedensday (a left-hander (Chico) against Hill))

Game Notes.

LIKE A FINE NINE: Fresh off winning 8 games during a 9-game stay in Chicago against the White Sox (3-0 at U.S. Cellular Field), the Colorado Rockies (3-0) and Milwaukee Brewers (2-1), the Chicago Cubs tonight begin a 2-city, 7-game road trip through Washington (4 games) and Pittsburgh (3 games) that takes the club to the All-Star Break next week.

Thanks in part to the 8 wins in their last 9 games, the Cubs are 18-9 (.667) in their last 27 contests, the best record in the National League beginning June 3…only Seattle (18-8) with one fewer game played has a better winning percentage than the Cubs starting June 3.

The Cubs were a season-low 9 games under .500 at 22-31 through 53 games prior to their current 27-game run to return to .500 at 40-40.

The Cubs reach Washington having won a season-high 3 series in row for the 2nd time this season…Chicago boasts its first 3-series winning streak since April 27-May 6 in St. Louis (2-0), in Pittsburgh (2-1) and vs. Washington (3-0).

ON THE RECORD: With a 40-40 record, the Cubs have returned to .500 for the 8th time this season…Chicago has been a season-best one game over .500 on 3 occasions, most recently at 16-15 on May 9…the Cubs were also 15-14 and 3-2.

With a win today, the Cubs would boast an above-.500 record at the season’s 81-game halfway point for the first time since 2004 (46-35).

WINNING THE CLOSE ONES: The Cubs are 8-3 in their last 11 games decided by one-run since June 7, upping their season tally to 10-15 in one-run contests after starting the campaign 3-13 in such contests…
