... on the same day as Thomas's 500 HRs.

Congrats Biggio.

Wow, congrats Craig.

I personally cannot stand you and your lean-out-over-the-plate-with-body-armour-on self. But, congrats anyway. Thats a helluva lotta hits.

We are living in what could be a golden era of baseball. The sad (and pathetic) thing is that the cloud of doubt hovers over every bit of it. I hate that.

Biggio's definitely a HOF. Find it funny that he gets 3000 the same day Thomas gets 500. Big Hurt's closest comparable has always been Jeff Bagwell, obviously Biggio's long-time teammate.

Biggio should still retire ASAP

STEROIDS COUGH STEROIDS

seriously. 3 of his best consecutive power years were his ages 38-40 seasons.

Couldnt it have anything to do with the fact that during that stretch he was also playing in a popsicle-stand-sized park?

I just never suspected Biggio of roids.

I feel the same way. Retire while you can still leave somewhat gracefully. Don't become Rickey Henderson. Go out on a high note.

I don't care what anyone says, Henderson was the man. The dude was playing minor leaguer ball up until what... 2-3 years ago? He obviously doesn't care about going out on a down note. If you love to play the game, you love to play the game, and if you're willing to sacrifice the pinnacle of all your acheivements just to keep playing, then that's just respectful in my eyes

Congrats, Craig! You deserve it.

I think it'd be hilarious if this happened tomorrow.

Just like Mr. 3000?

so he didn't suffer a career ending injury after we discussed his HOF candidacy? humph. one would have thought that after 20 years in the major leagues there was a chance his career would have come to an end in the past three weeks.

He's also dramatically altered his swing to try and drop flyballs into the crawford boxes. His power certainly isn't showing up away from Houston.

So I see that Tulowitzki hit a go-ahead homer in the 11th inning and the Rockies go on to lose again.....

What's happening with Fuentes?

He's been Hawkins-ized.

Congrats, Craig Biggio.

One of my first clear memories of a baseball game was attending this weekday afternoon game at Dodger Stadium:

2 HR - 6 RBI

Biggio hit two bombs into the LF pavilion and threw behind Mike Sharperson at 2nd base to catch him trying to get a lead on a bunt (Biggio was catching).

Here is some interesting hindsight:

http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/sports_columnists/article/0,1299,DRMN_83_5608271,00.html

If things had worked out as Biggio had planned in the winter of 1996-97, he would have attained the milestone as a Rockie instead of at their expense.

Back then, the Astros were in flux and Biggio, for the only time in his career, was testing the free-agent market. Agent Barry Axelrod let St. Louis know that if it wanted a package deal, his two clients on the market that offseason, Mark Grace and Biggio, were interested in going someplace together

So Mark Grace wanted to be a pinko commie....i mean a redbird. well well.

Later on in the article, it mentions this which is kind of cool but off topic:

Some friendships were renewed during the Rockies' visit to Wrigley Field. Right fielder Brad Hawpe was a teammate at Louisiana State with Cubs infielders Ryan Theriot and Mike Fontenot.

Rockies first base coach Glenallen Hill was a teammate of Alfonso Soriano with the Yankees, and in fact, he was the person who persuaded Soriano to use a 35-ounce bat.
