I see this weekend series as a "who is going to blink first" series. Both teams have been red hot, and one of those streaks has to come to an end. I don't see a sweep coming on either side, which is unfortunate for both because it could vault the Cubs right back into the hunt, and it could shoot the Brewers way out front. But I have a feeling it's going to be a great series. With that said, I'm also very upset the Brewers don't have to face Zambrano this weekend. Especially since Z just noticed the regular season started, and he started pitching accordingly.

a shame the cubs didn't capitalize when they had a chance a few weeks back...

true...and now that they're winning, the Brewers are playing some of their best baseball of the year. I'm beginning to thing that the implosion we all expected of the Brewers ain't gonna happen, and that we need to focus on the wildcard.

All right, how about Z vs. Sheets in a fight? I'll bet on Z in the first round by technical dismemberment.

I'll take Z vs. any other MLB iplayer n a fight. Z is insane. Even over Farnsie.

Yeah I'll take Z there for sure, Sheets is not a tough guy at all.

It's not that Zambrano is tough (although I'm sure he is), it's that he happens to be the craziest man ever to NOT get locked up in an asylum.

Maybe just in baseball. There's no way he tops Stephen Jackson or Ron Artest in terms of crazy.

After watching Ron Artest over the years, I'm almost positive that the show he puts on it all an act. He likes the negative attention too much. He's a perfect spokesman for the "There's no such thing as bad publicity" campaign.

Just look at Zambrano's eyes when they show dugout shots of him sitting on the bench by himself. It's scary. You start to wonder what could be going through his crazy head, and how many people he has in that head.

::COUGH COUGH Do the Cubs have a chance? COUGH COUGH::

Let's ask again after the Brewers. If they don't at least win the series, that's a pretty big setback. Not necessarily season-ending, but it'll really hurt.

Definitely would, as it would leave them only 3 more head to head matchups.

I don't think a 2-1 or 1-2 will really change things much. If the Brewers sweep the Cubs it will make things very hard on them, if the Cubs sweep the Brewers things are wide open.

I think one thing that hasn't been brought up about the wild card is the nature of the teams in front of us.

Right now, we are behind:

San Diego - 6.0

Arizona - 6.0

Los Angeles - 5.5

Philadelphia - 2.0

Atlanta - 2.0

SD plays 32 of its games against the above teams

ARI plays 35 of its games against the above teams (including 6 vs. us)

LA plays 32 of its games against the above teams (including 4 vs. us)

PHI plays 26 of its games against the above teams (including 4 vs. us)

ATL plays 22 of its games against the above teams

we only 14 games against all the other teams in the wild card race. Which means that it leaves alot of points in the season were everyone else is beating up on each other, and we get to play celler dwellers (61 games with teams below .500, but that can all change. regardless, we have a nice schedule for the stretch run).

Also of note is that 3 of the top teams in the WC race are in the race for the western division, so that means that we only are really competing with 4 other teams (as it stands now, unless you include colorado).

That also means the Cubs have the least amount of opportunity to leapfrog teams with head to head meetings. Plus, while those teams might beat each other up, it might be just as likely that one or two emerge well ahead of everybody else.

The wild card isn't out of the realm of possibility. But I think the division is still the more likely goal. I'd take either though.

Well WSCR still thinks the Cubs have a chance. Anybody heard their new promo? Something along the lines of "if you want to follow the 1 team in Chicago, who still can make the playoffs, then listen here for Chicago Cubs updates". LOL thats not the exact promo, but its along those lines, and basically states the white sox are done, and the Cubs arent.

Not me. It's wildcard or bust.

To win the division they are chasing one team, Milwaukee.

To win the WC they are chasing about 5 teams. That is a lot harder.

Down to 4 now. Plus keep in mind they're only 1 game behind Braves in the loss column.

You're right that chasing 5 (or 4) teams is usually more difficult than chasing one. But if we don't win the series over the weekend I like our chances going for WC more than going for division (mostly because Brewers have been doing so well lately.)

Ok...we're back to .500. I can start believing in this team again.

My "Believe" bracelet is still laying on my dresser - wonder if I should break it out? Nah........................

Don't change a thing until the streak is over.

You know, the 2003 Cubs never even had a stretch like this.

Unfortunately, their competition wasn't as good as this Brewers team.

I love the picture in your signature. Fonz draws your eyes at first look, but Derosa steals the picture by "walking it out."
