It was strange that Lou went to Koyie Hill to pinch run in the 9th instead of Jacque. White Sox announcers were commenting that Jones much be pretty far down on Lou's list.

I thought it made sense. Hill was going to have to come into the game. Why burn Hill, Jones and Ward on basically one at bat?

Jones might have been used to pinch hit later.

Koyie Hill had to come in the ballgame in the 9th anyway. If Jones had pinch-run, then Hill would have had to come in for him and the bench would have been completely emptied. If Hill didn't need to come in the game, Jones would have probably been the pinch-runner chose.

Ya beat me to it.

On the pre-game show today, they had a Sun Times reporter who said he thought there was a 50-50 chance that the Cubs would make a deal today and that the leading candidate was Jones.

If they do make a deal today, either Hendry is working late or they did a really good job of not letting it leak.

He managed to keep Nomar under wraps until a bit after the deadline.

They must be waiting for the ESPN nationally televised game, so then it gives the trade more exposure.

They're just that narcissitic.

Well, the SD deal does show that GM's do work strange hours. It was reported at 6:30 in the morning SD time.

As for Hendry, for all his faults, one thing that cannot be said is that he does not devote his life to the job. I think this offseason demonstrated that, and it wouldn't surprise me if he's working the trade lines right now, even if nothing ends up getting done.

Okay, let's say this trade is brewing. What do you think the Cubs are looking at? Who should they be looking for?

Disclaimer: Of course, it is obvious that the Cubs will probably receive a player that isn't good, regardless of what level this certain player is playing at.

I'm guessing that we'd get a low-level prospect that doesn't have to be put on the 40-man. It's not going to be anything good. Basically just a salary dump.

Yea, that's what I'm thinking at this point.

I'd be perfectly content with a low-level prospect or two and maybe a little salary relief. That'd make me a happy camper.

I'm not buying the rumor, since I can't see any reason why the White Sox would want an expensive marginal veteran. They're not making the playoffs. Jones is the type of player they should be dumping, not acquiring.

Agreed. I don't see the White Sox wanting him either. They are definitley going into seller's mode, so why would they want to add salary?

While, logically, you're both 100% right...

Kenny Williams is not smart and they just lost 2 outfielders yesterday.

That might just be enough to get it done.

I don't really consider this a salary dump as much as I consider it a talent dump (or lack thereof). Considering Jacque's numbers last year, he was well worth the $3M he made. This is why he should've been dumped in the offseason to someone looking for a lefty corner outfielder while his numbers were looking as good as his contract did after Soriano signed

No doubt.

Anyway, we've all heard that there was a good chance that he'd be traded today. It looks like it's a little late now...right?

Anyone heard anything recent?

Good news. Hopefully we can get a decent prospect for him.

Some how I don't think that report will end up being accurate, unfortunately.

Actually, since he said a 50-50 chance of a trade, it's a 100% guaranteed accurate statement. The statement said that the Cubs either will or won't make a trade. :D

Don't think this is posted anywhere else. Nothing really new, just more and more speculation. After this much talk and with the cubs wanting to call up one more pitcher, i'd expect this to be done soon. Take a prospect of anykind and hopefully someone will eat half his salary.

Rotoworld:

Jacque Jones, who hasn't started since Wednesday, could be traded in the next 24 hours.

''I'm not worried about it,'' said Jones. ''If it happens, it happens. If not, I'll be ready to play.'' The Rangers, Padres, and White Sox reportedly have showed interest in acquiring Jones.

apparently the Mets have interest too...

Daily Herald[/url]"]The Cubs will have to shed a position player to make room for a 12th pitcher. A trade of right fielder Jacque Jones would be the ideal situation for the Cubs, if they can find a taker (perhaps the New York Mets).
