Indications are the Cubs will step up their efforts to make another trade of a position player before Monday, when they plan to add a 12th pitcher to the staff.

That likely would mean moving Jacque Jones, who has gone from the Cubs' Opening Day starter in right field to essentially the Cubs' fifth outfielder. According to baseball sources, the San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers and even the White Sox have shown recent interest in Jones, who has been shopped again by the Cubs in recent weeks.

oh please happen, that would be just too sweet!

PLEASE move him to the sox. I would laugh hysterically at every sox fan I see for the next week (unless they give us Erstad in return).

If Erstad could stay healthy, I would love to make that deal.

Earstad? He is even worse that Jacque. No thanks

ooops...did I forget the "Grind" stat? Ok adding in some grind, he might be better.

Are you serious? He hasn't been decent since 2004.

2005:.273/.325/.696 (BA/OBP/OPS)

2006:.221/.279/.605

2007:.264/.311/.652

Yea, we really need another outfielder putting up THOSE numbers.

Plus, his Heart-Index and Moxy-Percentage is through the roof.

With all of these teams supposedly expressing interest, just dump him to whichever team agrees to pickup the most salary.

So next week it will be Jones to Colorado? It seems he is going to whomever the Cubs are playing or recently played these days.

Well, at least the good news is that what was seemed as very uncertain just a couple weeks ago is becoming increasingly likely-Jacque Jones will very likely not be a Cub after the deadline. If they get out without paying any of his contract (unlikely) his total numbers probably exceeded what the Cubs paid him over the last year and a half (his numbers last year were a bargain to his salary-he should have earned about 8 or 9 million last year compared to other right fielders. This year he should have earned 0. The Cubs have paid him I think something like 7 or 8 million so far on his contract).

Funny, you mentioning the Rockies. Weren't they recently shopping for a 4th/5th oufielder, who is left-handed and can handle CF?

They've been searching for that since they got rid of Juan Pierre.

Taveras is having a Juan Pierre type of season when Pierre was in Col. I've always liked Willy.

Dont get me wrong I am all for any fool who would take JJ off our hands.

What the heck are the White Sox doing even considering Jones though. They are out, done, finished. They can grab some bench. They are not going to be a good team next season. Jones is not going to be an a big upgrade over the young guys they have playing the OF now. It would just be 1 stupid trade for them no matter what they gave the Cubs.

Hopefully Jacque is gone. We have absolutely zero need for him with Pagan, Pie, and Floyd ahead of him on the depth chart...and even Murton waiting for another chance.

Who do the Sox think they are? They're clearly sellers this year.

They'd downgrade by getting Jones, sounds like selling to me.

He could be Dye or Podsednik's replacement

Terrero has been decent for them so far. I dunno if he can keep up his 840 OPS, but to trade for Jones and take away playing time from Terrero would be stupid as hell.

It was strange that Lou went to Koyie Hill to pinch run in the 9th instead of Jacque. White Sox announcers were commenting that Jones much be pretty far down on Lou's list.

Koyie Hill had to come in the ballgame in the 9th anyway. If Jones had pinch-run, then Hill would have had to come in for him and the bench would have been completely emptied. If Hill didn't need to come in the game, Jones would have probably been the pinch-runner chosen.
