I am appalled at how fast everybody has turned on Barrett...

I'm appalled by watching him play the game.

That's funny. The last three years, he's been one of the very few reasons to watch the Cubs, and two bad months into the next season, everybody says they can't stand him.

Barrett haters remind me way too much of Yankee fans... that whole "what have you done for me lately?" crap. It's disgusting... and it's certainly not befitting of a Cubs fan.

Cubs fans on this site that have that attitude like cubbiechris make me sick to be a cubs fan. If a guy has been nails for you for 3 years, you don't throw him under the bus. The same thing happened to Z. It IS disgusting. and Pathetic.

I don't like being associated with those types of Cubs fans.

A lot of people haven't liked him from the get go. It isn't like he is Sosa who everyone turned on.

Exactly. Same with Zambrano. With guys like him and Barrett, there have been criticisms with them since they started playing for the team, and many of those criticisms are very serious and valid points that should weigh heavily now that both are in the last year of their contracts.

What a load of crap.

I'd love to see all the criticism re: Z during 03 04 and 05. He was a GOD around here.

And for two months Barrett has been crap. Who cares what he did in the past. That's not helping this team now.

The point is that he has a recent track record of playing very good baseball.

Baseball? He had a track record for decent hitting. His general play, in my opinion, has always bordered on mediocre or worse.

There is a difference between being upset with how someone is playing, and being an ungrateful Yankees fan.

Thanks, o lord of baseball fandom.

Yankee fans, while scum of the earth, do want to win the series every year. They also have an owner with an unlimited budget, so they expect to have great results at all times. While I don't agree with the philosophy, I do respect the fact they always want to win.

Or they were choking dogs who didn't care or try hard enough.

I love how 16 wins with a 4.02 era aren't good enough for some people, yet they get all fired up over Marquis and Lilly.

at the time, $9M per year for a barely above-average pitcher was hardly worth writing home about.

Gameday has a lot of these flyballs as way up against the wall. At least he hasn't allowed any runs to this point.

Gameday is loco. None of them even made it to the warning track.

Again, the only real value Barrett has is his offense. You can call out the people that have "turned on him" all you want but I have seen very little redeeming qualities from him this season. It would be one thing if he were holding his own in other areas of the game, but he has regressed defensively (and offensively to a degree). Currently, Barrett is just a few notches above Jacque Jones on this team's value scale. His home runs have been the difference and until I see an overall improvement from him offensively I will continue to be disappointed with his playing time.

I see...Just blindly support a player for what he did in the past. Sure.

You should absolutely support the player if he's on your team. But that doesn't mean you can't be critical of a player either. But like I just said, there's a difference between being critical and respectful and throwing players under the bus like Yankee fans do. That behavior sickens me. But to each their own.

What all because I said I'm appalled watching him play the game? You need to relax...

What has he done a while ago? Very little.

This is a load of crap and you know it. Barrett has been one of the premier offensive catchers over the last two years.

La di freaking da. He's been a good hitter and terrible defender. The vast majority of his career has been abysmal, and hopefully his time on the Cubs is near its end.

But heaven forbid we say anything bad about him because we owe him so much for the greatness of the past 2 years.

I love Z. I love Barrett. That doesn't mean we don't have the right to be upset with how they're playing.

complete ignorance.

Yankees fans complain when a 97 win team doesn't win the World Series or when a league wide MVP doesn't establish himself as a true Yankee.

Cubs fans complain when a crappy player like Barrett comes back to earth after a few decent seasons and contributes to a team that's been miles under .500 while he's been here.

Man, I can never understand the stupidity involved in order to call Cubs fans ungrateful.

Yeah those ungrateful Cubs fans who only had 3 million fans come out last year to watch a 66 win team. Edited by illiniguy

There were criticisms of Z even when he was still down in the minors. Obviously, opinion was swayed WAY more positive, and I think it still is, but let's stop pretending like many of the valid points of Zambrano came out of nowhere or mean nothing. The idea of "selling high" for Z has been around even during his best seasons.

That is absurd. He has been one of the top hitting catchers in the NL for three straight years, and you call that worse than mediocre? That smacks of bias and subjectivity. Even if you can't stand his lack of performance this year, he has been one of the best at his position since he came to the Cubs.

Clearly reading comprehension is your shortcoming.

no one has said you can't say bad things about players. There's a way to do it respectfully, and a way to do it disrespectfully.

doing it disrespectfully makes one look like a jackass.

Maybe, but it was still our second best.
