Just because he had 1 bad inning doesn't make it a good outing. That is Hawk Harrelson logic.

i agree, but you gotta take the error into consideration because he got the ground ball he needed with 1 out in the inning...DeRo gets that and no runs score that inning

The crappy Marquis has returned sadly, that is 2 starts in a row now and he has really taxed the bullpen. Shoulda took advantage when he was throwing like Cy Young.

he had one poor inning and was hurt by a derosa error. His WHIP for the game was below 1.00, he just got unlucky today.

absolutely. He was fine today.

He was doing great until he couldn't throw strikes anymore.

Yeah, I'm not saying he had a great outing or was without any blame for that inning. But he was fine overall. The offense almost let him down, but squeezed out just enough.

Exactly-DeRosa picks that one up, and suddenly Marquis has allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, and struck out 7 through 6 innings.

does anyone know if the cubs have won back to back one run games this year?

Memory says no, but I'm not gonna say anything for sure.

He also walked 2 that inning, and hit the pitcher. Derosa should have made that play, but plenty of blame goes to Marquis in that inning.

o yeah ... i'm by no means letting marquis off the hook for hitting the pitcher... but it wasn't AS bad nor AS good as people are saying

Isn't this only the fourth or fifth one run victory? I'll say no.

You can all laugh at me later.

Plenty of blame does go to Marquis for that inning, you're right. Still, 5 runners given up and 3 earned runs in 5 2/3 isn't an awful outing-it might not be a great outing, but it's not awful either. Plus, the fact that he was that good over the first 5 innings is a hopeful sign for his next start that maybe the game in Atlanta was an aberration and not the rule.

I didn't see the game, but didn't he give up 1 hit and no walks in five innings today? That's not exactly what I'd call crappy. If DeRosa makes the DP instead of the error, Marquis is the likely winner.

Hm. Interesting Q&A in Lou's press conference.

Q: Do you see Hill being the starting catcher more often than not the rest of the way?

A: Let's take this one day at a time.

Lou just called our 13 man bullpen "a little short" in his postgame conference.

If he means because Dempster was unavailable, I have no problem with the comment.

But the staff is 13, the bullpen is only 8.

Yeah, I said only 8.

Lou hates Barrett. He said something to him after Barrett was picked off, and Barrett decided to argue with him. I think he's looking for any reason not to play the guy.

Hey, the Cubs are good! They win 1-run games now!

Two 1-run wins the first 2 months of the year, 4 in the last 8. Heh. i guess they are clutch.

Yeah, I heard that. Well, it is composed of two LOOGY's, a guy who was unavailable today, a long man who has had just two outings in the major leagues, and Scott Eyre. That doesn't leave too many people who can give innings in close games.

My guess is that Rapada will be sent right back down on Tuesday when Ward hopefully comes back. If he does come back then, the Cubs could really use him as the DH during the Rangers and White Sox series.

Hopefully it is a tryout for Rapada, and they are looking to drop Ohman if Rapada is ready.

Forgot about Ward. Will be nice to get him in the lineup with Ramirez out.

That would be unfortunate, considering that Hill can't hit his way out of a paper bag, and Barrett was just starting to heat up, despite his poor fielding.
