Hopefully Ohman or Eyre are the ones sent down, DL, or DFA'd.

Maybe even a Jones trade? Nah.

Rapada is 2-1 with a 3.77 ERA in 28.2 IP. 26 hits, 12 runs, all earned, 2 homers, 11 BB, 26 Ks, .263 Opp. avg.

Those numbers don't sound so great. Do you by any chance know his stats against lefties?

There seem to be 4 decent options here:

1) Ohman. He gave up the run yesterday and he's the most likely person who Rapada specifically would be called up to replace. I'm not saying it's necessarily right that he would be send down/DL'd, but it might happen.

2)Wuertz to the DL-In all the other extra inning games, Wuertz pitched much earlier than he did last night. Did they want to save him because he pitched 3 days in a row Friday/Saturday/Sunday, or because his arm isn't feeling right?

3)Eyre release. The question is-why now? If they were going to do it, wouldn't it have been done a couple of weeks ago?

4)Gallagher demotion. Since he didn't pitch last night, and he's the long man, I don't know why they'd send him down tonight. It wouldn't make sense if the bullpen is tired to send down a fresh long reliever for a short reliever.

All the other options are very unlikely.

Murton to AAA

Wow, the kid definitely has the talent and experience to stay in the bigs all of the time, but because we have 2939249 OFs, it makes sense to send him down and let him get his confidence back up. Angel Pagan makes a much better backup OF because Murton is a starter.

The good news is, this will probably hurt Matt's trade value, meaning he is not going anywhere until he gets another shot to start with the Cubs. I'd be pissed at the Cubs if I were him though.

Big Matt Murton fan, but I'm completely in favor of this move. I wish it was done a month ago though. He needs to play everyday.

The problem is now they have 13 pitchers and 3 non catching bench players.

Ditto. Without consistent AB's, Murton is useless. Best thing for him.

Another year, another Hendry mess, what do you expect?

I thought of Gallagher as well, but he did pitch last night, 1/3rd of an inning according to the box score.

You know what's weird? I was at the game last night and Rapada's name was flashed on the scoreboard for like a second before someone's AB (I believe it was Hill's at the end).

Hopefully Murton can get it back on track in AAA. He just hasn't come around so far this year. I don't think it's all the splitting time thing, because he didn't have a good grasp of his job in either 2005 or parts of 2006. Playing everyday though might let him figure out what's causing his slump and correct it. The Cubs could use his 2005/2006 numbers in the second half, and I still think he could be a valuable component to this year's team.

Hopefully this means that Floyd gets most of the at-bats in right field for now.

Gallagher came in and cleaned up Ohman's mess.

This move should have been made a month ago - Murton to AAA.

We already have one LOOGY in the pen, so I'm not sure why they called Rapada up.

Oh well, it's not like Lou knows how to manage a pen anyway.
