our pen pitches great for six or so innings and then Lou brings dempster into the eighth inning looking for a two inning save? and after giving up 2 runs he still allows him to pitch to jones? just plain stupid. and then of course barret cant stop the ball, again. this game was a must win because our bullpen will be [expletive] for the next week.

I knew this would happen after we couldn't score with the bases loaded. arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

who exactly is he supposed to bring in? Gallagher? He who pitched 3 innings yesterday on top of the fact that he might not be ready to work on back to back days. Eyre? He who is the worst pitcher on the team?

Its the umps that blew this game. Unbelievable 14 IP from the bullpen the last 2 games and we still have like 7 more games in a row to play

How about bringing Marquis in out of the pen? Sure he was bad yesterday but he couldn't have been much worse than dempster. Plus its not like he would have been too tierd to do so.

at anyrate most frustrating game of the year, at least for me.

I should probably learn how to spell rediculous before i start a thread with it. ](*,)

You had it right with the "i."

That doesn't change the fact that the Cubs should have won this game.

What drives me nuts is Fontenot's loaded dp didn't bring a run home, while the Braves loaded grounder did. Also Franceour shattered his bat on weak grounder, probably the weakest hit in the inning, and it somehow finds the only hole on the left side for a 2-out RBI earlier in the game.

It astonishes me the bad luck and misfortune this team has game in and game out. Add in bad play and you get a team 3-13 in one-run games. I'm so sick of it...it'll be a week before I can watch another game, because I can't take it.

This game was lost when dumbass Jim Wolf tossed Lilly. Even when we had the lead, I was highly skeptical we had enough pitchers to survive.

I look for either Marmol or Gallagher, if not both, to get sent down so that some fresh relievers can be brought up. Both will return, but we need some fresh arms to get through the next few days.

But it boils down to the fact that Wolf is a douche who doesn't have a clue.

I just got back a little while ago from the game, and it was complete BS. Lilly getting tossed for no apparent reason was bad enough, but the way we battled back just to give the game away was too much to handle. After the Cubs had bases loaded no outs in the 8th and failed to score, I just had a horrible feeling they were gonna lose, and they sure proved me right. Damn it all.

I wish that something could be done to Wolf, suspension or something. What he did was ridiculous.

i agree..i mean granted the cubs did take the lead and didn't keep adding on with basedloaded and no one out....but the fact is that you can't expect a two inning save from dempster and i understand that eyre was the other choice, but dempster isnt a top notch closer to do that....that was the most poor umpiring that I have seen in a while. Jim Wolf forced lou's hand tonight. it was nothing the braves. MLB needs to penalize him for something like because it is inexcusable...if he knew that Lilly or someone from the cubs was gonna hit a braves hitter tonight then issue a warning before the game. also, not to throw renteria out earlier when he forearmed fontenot is unexcusable. this umpire crew should be investigated......

sorry, had to get that off my chest cuz i've been ticked off about it for a while since the game got over. here's to beating the astros today.

GO CUBS!

The umping seems like crap this year. The way I see it is when umps are good, you don't even notice them. When you start noticing them, it's for a reason, and it's not a good one. Let the teams win or lose on their own, but don't affect it, umps.

I would say they did the extreme opposite of that tonight....they totally affected the game.

Jim Wolf....i wish bad things upon you

There's no question in my mind the umps jobbed us out of that series. Now we'll probably go on a losing streak because our bullpen is shaky, and now, quite gassed.

This is completely, totally, and in all other ways, ridiculous.

Lou screwed up when he didn't bring Wuertz back for his 2nd inning. Even though his spot came up in the order, Barrett had just hit a HR, giving the Cubs the lead. No reason not to let Wuertz hit for himself. Once he did that, there was no way NOT to have Dempster throw 2 innings. Gallagher was probably not available. Eyre probably could have been used if needed, but probably not a good spot for him in a close game.

Wuertz was pitching his 3rd straight night.

Even more of a screw up: the league hiring Wolf in the first place. And Tschitta too.

Just to defend Barret, that pitch was maybe 55 feet and then flattened out...that is a 50/50 pitch to catch for almost all catchers. Do not blame Barret because of his recent miscues - it was simply a horrible pitch

I'm not going to throw Barrett under the bus, despite his general poor play this year, when obviously the cause of this thing is the umps. Place blame where it initially came from, not the resulting problems. That would be like blaming a store owner for not selling enough product the day after his store was ripped clean by a band of thieves.
