Unwilling to adjust does not imply unwilling to work.

I'd say that his willingness to work showed that he was trying his hardest to adjust. The guy knew he had some serious flaws at the plate and I don't think a guy like him would simply write them off. Frankly, I think part of what doomed him was some terrible coaching. Baker admitting he taught Patterson to swing at face-high fastballs during an Orioles game earlier this year nearly made me lose my lunch.

However, the other part that doomed him was an inability to adjust, rather than an unwillingness to do so. Something never clicked for him when it came to plate discipline.

After he hits a homerun, he rounds the bases, then taps his chest and points to the sky when he reaches homeplate.

I think he does it every time he gets a hit and reaches a base.

Squelch the Patterson talk! Read the title of the thread! It's all about Pie baby!

I know it. They are similar though.

The biggest advantage I see with Pie is his swing doesn't look as long and loopy to me as CPatt's. I always thought that swing (which he still has, from what I've seen) really limited how good a hitter Corey could be over the long haul.

Also, Pie seems to have no problem hitting at the top of the order. Unlike, um, some other players with similar tools who apparently viewed themselves primarily as home run hitters. But this is PIE'S THREAD so I won't name any names.

Pie is awesome. He really cranked it up when he was sent back to Iowa.

I was pretty impressed with how he battled the lefties he's faced since his latest call up. His numbers vs. LHP don't look good, but he hung in there.

Interesting stat. The Cubs without Pie on the roster are 10-23. With Pie, they are 15-9. Maybe there is something to that "infectious energy".

While I don't think the contrast was quite so stark, I believe adding Lofton as a lineup fixture the second half of one of those previous seasons carried a bit of success with it as well.

I'm all about the Pue BandWGN...but even Patterson had his days where he looked unbeatable. I'm not saying Pie is Corey II (and I really don't think he is), but I'm gonna be a little patient in watching our latest "can't miss" prospect.

Funny, I think Corey II is exactly what he is.

So far, he's shown great speed and flashes of a power bat while drawing one walk in 70 major-league PA for a .275 OBP.

It seemed to me that Corey seemed to swing for the fences all the time rather than worrying about just making contact. I haven't seen Pie all that much yet (only some of the games he's played at the ML level) but he doesn't seem to be trying to hit the ball 500 feet every time he steps to the plate.

I really don't understand the Felix Pie/Corey Patterson comparisons...

Patterson was a "little man" trying to be a power hitter...Pie is 6'2 and while he is real thin now, has the frame to bulk up. I see Pie as a legit 30+ HR/season type of player.

I don't believe their 15-9 record with Pie in the lineup is a coincidence, no question they're a better team with him in the lineup. Do you believe he's going to remain in CF - including vs a LHP - for the rest of the season?

I think he will play about 6 out of 7 games. If there's an extremely tough lefty on tap, Lou might give Pagan his token playing time. However, if Pagan is sent down and Murton is kept up, I would imagine the OF vs. tough lefties will be Soriano, Pie, and Murton, with Pie playing every single day.
