Why do I have the feeling that despite it being overtly obvious moves need to be made, Hendry' going to sit on his hands and wait it out? At the very least, these are moves that should be made:

1. Dump Jones, bring up Pie, put him in CF for the rest of season.

2. Dump Erye, bring up Carmen Pignietello or Clay Rapada

3. Dump Barrett, bring up Soto and go with him and Hill until Blanco comes off the DL

These three moves would improve the team furthermore, if Hendry has any thoughts at all about saving his job and face, something must be done.

I think we could do better than "dumping" Barrett. Getting anthing of value, even a B prospect for Eyre would be an accomplishment if we didn't pay any of his salary. Same goes for Jones.

I think the problem Hendry faces is he's in a win now mode when most other teams are happy with sitting on their hands. They didn't spend all the dough the cubs did so their's not as much pressure.

Why should Hendry do anything?

The ballpark is full.

Lots of people "getting their Cubs on".

I'll bet Jim Hendry's favorite singer is Bobby McFerrin.

I agree with 1 and 2. I'm not convinced Barrett needs to go yet but I could care less one way or another. Izturis also needs to go. The double play machine that he is. The guy is our starting SS and only has 5 rbi!?! He needs to go.

this team does not have a lot of talent. it has what most cub teams of the past have had...overpaid, one-dimensional players. The team has been sold & will be spun off again. Jim Hendry is done after this season & he knows it. That's why he overpaid for crap. He will not be selling off anything or doing what's best for the franchise & that is to trade high priced vets for young talent. We are in a mess & won't get out of it until the team is resold & we have a new GM/mgr in place (lou does not want to manage young talent..see Tampa Bay). Only then will they have a chance to be interested in doing what's right long-term.

I'm quite sure he was being sarcastic.

Just curious when that fight happened NCCubFan. If it was recently, I've been under a rock, it's calmer than watching the current team.

Never mind, I checked baseball discussions and can't believe how out of hand it has went to in the last few days. This is unbelievable, back to not caring.

we don't need to add another lefty if we dump Eyre

You forgot "don't worry, be happy"

We don't need to add another lefty if we dump Eyre,

We have plenty of righties that can stink out there.

Don't worry, be happy.

I'm not defending Hendry, but dumping Jones, Eyre, and Barrett would then bring out the critics who would say that Hendry ended up paying most of their salaries and got nothing (or next to nothing) in return. While I agree with #s 1 & 2 while trading Barrett for something, none of those moves would do much do drastically improve the team or save Hendry's job. The only way Hendry saves his job is by pulling off a blockbuster deal for a "game breaker" (i.e. ARod, Tejada, etc.) and the team resonds by getting back into the race.

why does everyone assume that pie/pignatello/whoever will do any better than who is here now? because they're cheaper? as if that somehow makes each hit count for two or something.

Because the people they would replace have been abominable. Not incredibly difficult to do better than Jones' 74 OPS+, or Eyre's 54 ERA+.

It is quite common for teams to catch lightning in bottle from the minors, especially when it comes to bullpen roles.

I'm pretty sure that anybody from AAA could come up and have an ERA and WHIP less than the 7.85 and 2.51 that Eyre is currently sporting.

I'd even be willing to give some members of this board a shot at beating eyre's numbers.
