I believe we'll see less of Barrett and Jones in the Cubs lineup and more of Blanco and hopefully, Pie. Barrett and Jones are both defensive liabilities and, for lack of better word, stupid when it comes to Baseball. What the Cubs "lose" in offense by not playing Barrett and Jones will be offset by what they'll gain in the defense Blanco and Pie bring. Barrett' worth as a catcher was his offense, if he's not hitting, he worthless as a catcher. As for Jones, last year, he at least, supplied some power, with the power outage, he's worthless as well.

Barrett's good bat has to be in the lineup.

Fixed. And I agree. I love Barrett as much as the next person... I even have one of his jersey t-shirts. But he's not hitting and we're not winning. So long as he's hitting like Hank White... just keep Hank White in for defense. But get Bare some playing time to see if he can heat up after the demotion.

i look to barrett to be traded by the deadline. with soto & hill hitting well at iowa, why not give then a shot? if they could only dump the 3 stiffs (eyre, derosa & jones) and bring up rapada, fontenot & pie, things would look much brighter imo. a large part of the failure this year might be attributed to not having faith in their minor league system.

since everyone is talking about how bad barrett's offense has been, has blanco's defense been all that great? he's only thrown out 1 runner stealing.

Not so sure if it's not having faith in the system in as much as it is Lou loving the veteran concept.

but lou didnt sign guys like derosa & soriano for huge $ when they have theriot, fontenot & murton.

Blanco' a better receiver, and he'll stop more pitches in dirt, look at Barrett' approach, he's never going improve at receiving pitches nor will he cut down on the passed balls. Moreover, team's run at will on Barrett, they'll not run so much on Blanco.

Is there a way to see what each of their catcher's ERA is? I know that's obviously very dependent on who's throwing to them, but I'd imagine Blanco calls a better than Barrett.

2007 CERA:

Barrett: 4.11

Blanco: 4.04

Blanco's defense has been lacking in the games I've watched. Obviously Barret's bat has been bad, but Blanco's is ugly.

Blanco: .194/.231/.250

Barrett: .244/.293/.417

And Hendry gave him a two-year deal worth $5.5M. Simply mind-boggling.

As I'm sure you already know:

Soto at AAA: .319/.383/.504. And he plays good D too.

Maybe he means that by being by far and away the most patient at the plate hes stiff?

As reported in Transactions, Blanco is now on the 15-day DL, with Hill coming up from Iowa. So at least for now Barrett seems safe.

Last time I checked, defense is the least of this team's problems. We need to learn how to hit the friggin ball and bullpen needs to learn how to throw strikes.

Certainly Blanco's offense is terrible, but he's still a well-respected defensive catcher and really puts Barrett to shame in that department.

The real problem isn't that we might have to play a defense-only catcher. Many teams do, and they win with it. It's just that the rest of our offense down in the order is so terrible it creates a black hole 7,8,9.

I'm getting sick of watching Barrett throw games down the toilet so either he needs to get his head out of his ass or we need another catcher.
