Did you see that play during the Tigers/Cardinals game today?

He was playing a very shallow centerfield, and Sean Casey hits a ball over his head. So not only was he very shallow to begin with, but he actually took a step IN before he started running backwards. Needless to say, the ball went over his head and two runs scored.

Are you serious? He dives all the time and catches balls that would go over the fence by many centimeters.

The truth.

Edmunds has post concussion syndrome, the same thing that cut short Aikman's career in football and did in that catcher (forget his name, Matheny maybe?) this past off season.

Not funny, but after years of highlight reel catches, age has a way of catching up with ya.

I think he should have hung it up, his reflexes are shot at the plate and it shows.

He always provided good SportsCenter material. Since St. Louis is in the middle of the country and doesn't get much attention from the national press: that's all they're going to see.

Edmonds is/was the king of making a routine play look spectacular by unneccesary diving, jumping, etc. He's a showboater and I hate him

Exactly: but that's what ends up on ESPN.

I hate the guy, but this catch is probably the best play I've ever seen.

agreed

that catch was only necessary because he was playing 3 steps behind 2nd base at the time

My favorite Edmonds move is when he runs around in a circle and then falls down to make a catch while all the Cards fans ooh and aah because most of them are such blindly following sheep they don't realize he's showboating. At least some of the sports guys down here are finally calling the fans on stuff like this, it's funny to hear them call into the sports shows all peed off because somebody is criticizing their beloved Cards.

Some might argue that this was Edmonds' favorite catch.

If you can play a shallow CF and still get back to make those catches - that is a defensive plus, not something to make fun of as setting oneself up for highlight reel catches.

Jim Edmonds was a badass CFer.
