Apparently his latest comments have stirred this up again. I love Cashman's comments: "Really its on these guys! We had no idea!" Yeah right, $$$$man.

This is a seriously wrong message to be sending to the players. I respect Giambi more now that he seems to be finally trying to make a change. He is coming out and saying that changes need to be made and that this needs to be addressed, and the Yankees respond with this crap.

Great. Try to better the game by trying to affect change on a serious issue and lose your contract. Awesome.

i like how they talked about voiding his deal in 2004, didn't talk about it in 2005 and 2006, and now are talking about it again this year. Coincidentally, he was lousy in 2004 and his power is way down in 2007, but he raked in 2005 and 2006.

Bottom line, use all the roids you can get your hands on, as long as you keep hitting.

trade for him and pray he can handle left field

I think including theoretical defense in LF along with baserunning, Gimabi is less valuable than even an imporperly managed Pagan/Murton/Floyd platoon.

Giambi's contract is heavily backloaded, so if the Yanks void now they get rid of the most expensive years. Giambi is also going to be quite old in those years and probably less productive than in the past. From a business perspective voiding now makes sense, but it's pretty sleazy to have waited for the convenient moment to do it.

Actually, I can't imagine them picking up the '09 option, so they'd probably just try to get out of the 2008 salary and then the buyout. I think they know they'd have an uphill battle against the MLBPA.

Agreed. I would bet the Yanks once viewed the backloaded portion as not mattering b/c Giambi, in theory, should have aged well: he walks a ton and can DH in the AL until he is Julio Franco's age.

Grab him.

right, to play where?

As the clubhouse attendant in charge of getting the Cubs roids and avoiding detection.

Heck, I could do that- HGH. They don't even test for it in MLB and it's supposed to be the berries.

Now, if I can just find a supplier...

Giambi used steroids!?!??!?!?! No way!

I really don't understand this. The Yankees were rumored to be interested in voiding his deal previously. Everyone knows he used steroids, why now? Why again?

PS I understand why they'd want out of the end of his deal.

Why now? Why again? Because Giambi was quoted recently (USA Today?) once again apologizing for using "that stuff", and saying "we" should have been more honest. He gave them ammo to once again look to getting out of his contract.

right, to play where? he can barely play 1B in a competent manner.

Minor League hitting coach. Need someone else besides Von Joshua that can help teach a little patience.

They're getting defensive as if he's trying to put it all on the owners. He's throwing the players association under the bus as well. The more defensive they act about it, the worse they look. They need to shut up and bite off their share of that turd sandwich, because they helped make it.

He gave them more ammo? That ammo had already been given with his grand jury testimony in 2003. I don't see how he gave them more ammo, he just game them the same ammo again. He (sort of) admitted to using steroids for the second time.

Which gives them ammo to revisit the notion of getting out of his contract. Had he not said anything, they wouldn't be leaking this story. It's not that confusing.

I understand why the Yankees would want to get out of his contract, and I understand that the Yankees would want anything Giambi says regarding the situation to be ammo.

But, regarding the voiding of his contract, they either can or cannot void the contract based on his steroid use. Since he already admitted to it -- in front of a grand jury, no less -- they don't need the extra ammo. The admission has been made. If the Yankees can void the contract, they don't need a second admission -- the first one would work. I don't understand why that's so confusing.

Good luck building a case around sealed grand jury testimony (leaked or otherwise) that MLB has no rights to see, let alone act upon.

Obviously the Yanks and/or MLB weighed their options the first time around. Now by shooting off his mouth again, Giambi has given them reason to revisit those options.

In the end they may still not have enough to punish him on. But thanks to Giambi himself, they have more now than they did a week ago.
