Z's velocity cost him 2 Ks the first two ABs of this inning, IMO. Eventually he got Dye to pop out, but his 3 pay-off pitches were fastballs between 88 and 92. Z then went to several breaking balls on the following hitter which resulted in a walk. If he'd have his normal plus fastball (94-96) this inning would be over.

If he threw that pitch on a 1-2 count or a 2-2 count, then yeah. But it was a fairly easy pitch to lay off of on a 3-2 count. The ball broke way outside of the plate.
