I can't wait to see Lou's PC after a couple of disasterous miller starts, where he shakes his head in disgust (hopefully at his own self too) and has to explain why the hell he thought Miller could actually pitch to ML'ers.

I thought you meant personal computer instead of press conference. Although, I can expect an emo myspace Lou.

I'm curious to see how long a leash Miller will get. If he bombs in his first 2 starts while throwing 87 mph fastballs then I wouldn't see any reason to give him another start. Not sure what Lou would do.

Yup. I knew there was something bad about only 670 reporting the news about Marshall.

FYI, the Tribune is also reporting that Sean Marshall will be called up this week. Maybe Miller will be used in middle relief; just enough to prove (hopefully) that he's healthy so he can be apart of a trade. Who knows? I think Lou will have him on a short lease because Miller was completely ineffective last time and we know Lou has very little patience for pitchers who can't get outs.

Sean Marshall will be called up to the Cubs this week, although when and where he'll start remains top secret.

hopefully something involving a hip-check and a woodchipper.

Miller in the bullpen is less depressing than Miller starting. Heck, I might even feel more comfortable with Miller for an inning, than Eyre.

This is what the cliche captains call 'stuck between a rock and a hard place'.

As I posted in another thread, I can't find anything in that article that suggests anyone but Miller thinks Miller's joining the big club any time soon.

Same. I didn't see anything that led me to believe Miller was starting.

And Wade isn't starting. Per rotoworld this morning:

Sean Marshall will be called up to take Angel Guzman's next scheduled start.

Guzman is being moved to the bullpen after struggling his past couple starts. Marshall has been great in Triple-A Iowa this season and could be someone to keep an eye on in deep NL-only leagues.

Is it safe to assume this "shakeup" is much to do about nothing? Lou must attend the Vince McMahon school of big announcements and minimal payoffs.

What are you talking about? I still remember the Y2J countdown.

Not to swerve too far off topic, but that was before WCW was a McMahon property. Although it happened quite a bit before that time too; and in both promotions.

Staying on topic... is there something more exepected to be announced before tonight's game begins?

So three lefty starters? Who would have thought that a few years back? What do we think the likely order will be? Maybe it'll look like the following:

Hill

Marquis

Lilly

Marshall

Z

Ok, I read the article and thought the same thing. Just because Miller says he's ready doesn't mean a thing.

That said, when he's called up, I think he'll start just because Hendry gave him his word that he'll start or be moved.

With 3 lefties, the notion of breaking them up pretty much goes out the windown. The order really doesn't matter.

Did the Cubs ever make a full turn through the rotation with 3 of the 5 lefty starters they employed last year?

It's possible both are true. Hendry will give him starts to prove health, thus enabling a trade. Hendry couldn't trade him while he was on the shelf.

But he could decide to do the right thing for the team and not handicap them with somebody like Miller on the mound.

To borrow a line from George Costanza...

Miller's presence on a major league mound can only hurt his chances of being traded.

Seriously, would any GM in all of baseball trade for Wade Miller?

One of your scrap heap projects didn't work out Jim. Get over it and move on.

i hope hendry is not stupid enough to jeopardize his own job because he had some kind of ole timey, handshake, man of his word deal with miller.

Actually, if he has such a deal, he needs to honor it.

On the other hand, if he made such a deal, he needs to be fired immediately.
