Since when does Wuertz only pitch to righties? I think had he not walked his man he would have stayed in. Eyre walked a batter and was pulled. Weurtz came in and walked a batter and was pulled. Message sent.

Wuertz in the past three years:

Lefties - .230/.341/.399/.740

Righties - .216/.292/.332/.624

Ohman in the past three years:

Lefties - .165/.274/.286/.559

Righties - .239/.349/.369/.718

The numbers surprised me, but there you go.

 Walk off win isn't good enough to get highlights shown on BBTN. Didn't have time after 30 minutes of Clemens.

Can I get a quick recap of what happened? I quit watching after the top of the 8th, and the game threads take way to long to read.

BOTTOM OF THE 9TH

- C. Cordero relieved J. Rauch

- C. Floyd hit for C. Izturis

- C. Floyd walked

- D. Ward hit for N. Cotts

- J. Marquis ran for C. Floyd

- D. Ward singled to left, J. Marquis to second

- A. Soriano flied out to right

- R. Theriot singled to right, J. Marquis scored, D. Ward to third

- D. Lee intentionally walked, R. Theriot to second

- A. Ramirez grounded into fielder's choice, D. Ward out at home, R. Theriot to third, D. Lee to second

- J. Jones grounded out to first

1 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors

BOTTOM OF THE 10TH

- R. Wagner relieved C. Cordero

- M. Murton doubled to deep left

- M. Barrett grounded out to third

- H. Blanco hit for R. Dempster

- H. Blanco singled to right, M. Murton to third

- D. Ward singled to left, M. Murton scored, H. Blanco to second

I know it ended up working out since Marquis scored from second Theriot's single, and I know we're short an offensive player since Cedeno was sent down and Guzman was brought up, but having a starting pitcher pinch run makes no sense.

Even when that starting pitcher is faster than several people on the team? Marquis is faster than Ward, Floyd, Aramis, and Blanco and is just as fast as DeRosa, Lee, Barrett, Jones, Izturis, and Murton.

I think Lou doesn't think of Ohman as a LOOGY. He hasn't seemed to use him as one, really.

Anyway, I thought the use of the BP was a bit excessive today, but it should have worked anyway, and we have the day off tomorrow.

It wasn't something I thought was *very* bad, just a little excessive. Lou seems to do this more than I was aware of. I guess I haven't paid close enough attention to his past.

I'm pretty sure Lou thinks of Ohman as a LOOGY despite his at-bats so far. Lou has put him in situations to either face left-handers, face switch hitters and turn them around, or occasionally a full inning during a blowout game. The only game I can remember where he was asked to pitch a full inning in a close game was the game he had to come in during the 14th because everybody else had already been used.

Nice winning streak, but we've been playing the Pirates and Nationals. I would hope a $110 mil team could beat that level of opponent.

Agreed, we should've beaten them so badly MLB would have no choice but to award us 8 wins for the last 5 games.

You can go a long way towards 90+ wins just by beating up on the crap teams and playing 500 against the good ones. Especially in the NL where there's an abundance of crap, and not a lot of the goods.

agreed. Back to the old saying, "beat the teams you should".

Last year's team sucked at that.

It doesn't work when you're one of "the teams you should beat"

One year ago from today, the Cubs were 14-15, losing to the Padres, the stretch where they had a 8 game losing streak.

This year is much better. :D

I must also add that the Cubs Longest Winning Streak of last year was 4 (July 27 to July 30 and August 13 to August 16)

This year, their longest winning streak is currently at 5.

Once I believe, but that's when he really overthrew the batter, walking him during the process, and I believe that's one of the runs came from.

IIRC, I think it was 2 outs, bases loaded, and full-count, the fans were standing, cheering, and he overthrew the pitch.

Didn't see today's game, but he hit 99 twice in his first start for Iowa.

They were the worst team, they shouldn't have beaten anyone

Yeah, I saw 99 once. Mostly his heater was in the 96/97 range.

Kid did so good I'm giddy 8-)

An argument can be made he should have had a shutout, if not for the ump's changing strikezone.

It can be argued that Piniella over-managed in winning the game in the 10th inning.

I think though, there was also a method to his madness.

His many changes was a way to tell this team to pay attention and be prepared to play when called upon.

With Baker and his laid back style, last year these changes would never have occured. It is just another way of Lou telling this team, it is a new year, so be prepared.

Piniella is a *lot* more involved in game strategy. Makes for very entertaining times for Cub fans, that is for sure.

Cubs tied it in the bottom of the 9th on a Floyd single (Marquis pinch run), Ward single, and Theriot single.

Cubs had winning run on 3rd with 1 out in the 10th but couldn't score.

Cubs win in the 11th on a Murton double, Blanco single, Ward single

Floyd, Ward, Murton, and Blanco. Man was our bench clutch yesterday.

My issue was more with the constant bullpen shuffling. Why does Wuertz get yanked after one batter because he walked him but Eyre stays in after his first batter gets a double?
