How long does an NFL team control a player's rights? The reason I ask is, if you were an NFL team, would you pick Jeff Samardzija (probably a second round talent) with a 6th or 7th round pick if you controlled his rights in case he flamed out with the Cubs, or just decided he wanted to play football instead)?

You control his rights up until the next year's draft I believe. The Cowboys didn't trade for Henson's rights until day before the draft IIRC.

oh... well that makes it an unlikely pick then. I can't see him changing his commitment to baseball within the next year.

I think Chris Perry is done as a Bengal.

Chris Henry is your classic workout warrior and will be complete crap in the NFL.

He has shown flashes but I don't think he'll be anything special.

Unbelievable "analysis" from Peter Schrager on Foxsports:

"SCHRAGER ON THE SCENE: Greg Olsen "slips" to 31 and the Bears scoop him up. I'm not sure how a guy who had arguably the most underwhelming college career in recent Miami football memory could "slip" in a draft, but that's the word buzzing around here. Dwayne Jarrett, meanwhile, still hasn't been taken. You know, the same Dwayne Jarrett who holds every career receiving record in USC history. I'm mildly disappointed with the Bears fans' jerseys in the stands: Rex Grossman, Brian Urlacher, Devin Hester, Walter Payton. Yawn. Where's the Curtis Enis throwback?"

Greg Olsen had Kyle Wright and other assorted trash throw to him, and STILL took over a couple ball games and he's a dissapointment? Are you serious?

Man that Calvin Johnson sure underachieved a bit, didn't he? He had clinically [expletive] Reggie Ball throwing to him and we all know he's under control of that.

Nice to slip in a random and apparently meaningless insult about a previous Bear draft. (No one from that regime is still in charge)

Kyle Wright and Brock Berlin say hello.

Josh Beekman and Manuel Ramirez are still up there if Dallas wants an OL. Eric Wright and McCauley in the secondary, Jason Hill at WR; I wonder where we'll go.
