ya cubs, 1 run on 6 hits, u are incredible. all i gotta say is cubs suck, and cedeno should not have been pinch running. why wasn't pie in there, he is a better base runner and knows how to steal a base and STAY on the base until he calls time.

With very few exceptions, the Cubs offense has been awful for all of my adult life.

Yep. What's amazing to me is that every single Cubs team since 1987 has been horrible fundamentally, can't take a walk, can't run the bases, the pitchers walk too many hitters, defense is shaky. It doesn't matter the personnel or the roster, the Cubs have forever played bad baseball.

THIS....is beyond doubt. And THIS has been the cause of the problems through the years. Again...as the original poster stated....with a very few exceptions.

Those of you in you in your 20's and 30's....buckle up....this team has been breaking peoples hearts for 90+ years. What you are seeing is not new. Its been the norm forever.

That they havent gotten lucky and stumbled into a World Series along the way is astonishing.

Let me check my math here....yes.....thats 20 FREAKING YEARS!

When Hill is pitching a gem they act like a ball club. When the Cards are giving them numerous opportunities to beat them they choke like dogs. I mean cripes, Izzy let that weak roller go through the middle. Then Jones on a 3-1 pitch can't check his swing on a pitch so far out of the zone that it was hard for Molina to grab. Then when he walks, Cedeno screws up. Then Murton swings at a pitch in his eyes and pops out on the first pitch. They are better off just waiting for the other team to give it to them, rather than putting pressure on themselves to perform. If I have to watch numerous bums choke away ball games while Pie sits on the bench I'll scream. Pie has done nothing but win his entire career. He may not have won that game for the Cubs but he does have a future.

We're cursed. It's got to be.

Almost exactly like Chicago Bears football, except replace hitting with "offense, or any sort of ability to pass the ball" , and lack of fundamentals.

No way Lou makes it out of April without an explosion on the field.

God, he's got to be thinking retirement looks real appealing right about now.

I hope he exploded on the team after the game.

I was cautiously still optimistic as early as last night. It's a young season. But good teams don't lose today's game. Good teams don't go 0-7 in games decided by 2 runs or less.

And it's only April! That's the scary part!

Correct. Horrible teams do. Teams that are among the worst of a quarter century do.

If the 04 Cubs finished middle of the pack in runs, our offense will always suck. Lee, Ramirez, Sosa, Alou, Nomar, Walker, Barrett, Patterson..... I would be happier if I weren't a Cubs fan, thats for sure.

I still cant figure out why they cant even get a bunt down when they intend to. i mean that play with blanco today was pathetic. I dont even want to think about how many bunt attempts ive seen fouled off or popped up in the last few years.

does anyone else attribute at least part of this to a great shock in the system that has to be going on with this club after the drastic managerial change?

imagine going from a slacker boss that lets you get away with whatever, and then you get super strict boss at your work... it would probably take a little bit of time to catch up to the system.

it will happen, it's just going to take another month or so. we shouldn't be completely out of contention by then.

Seriously. I was not a good baseball player by any stretch of the imagination but one thing I could do was lay down a bunt. It's not a hard concept. Stick your bat up there, keep it level, and let the ball hit it.

it's not a hard concept, but execution is another thing. i'm sure it's much harder to put a 98 mph fastball four feet on the third base line, or drop a 12-6 curve for a bunt single between the first baseman and pitcher... not that that's an excuse, these guys are supposed to be professionals, but it's still not an open court lay up.

agreed, but hell im not even talking about placement here, we're talkin just getting it in play and not fouling it off or popping up. the other teams dont seem to have much trouble doing that.

OBP guys....the reason I was down on the team when everyone else was predicting Division titles and whatnot

Yeah, I just checked the stats and we only got 2 guys in the NL top 50 for OBP so far this season: Lee & Ramirez. That's even less than Florida and Colorado got. Ugh!
