I have been told that the BlueJays are interested in scouting and talking to the Cubs about J Jones and possibly Will Ohman for package of prospects.

I question what the Cubs will want in return to save the Blue Jay's season with two major injuries.

The thing is Hendry wants to win now and not tomorrow, I could see acquiring Zaun © who is 36 yrs old and another good prospect where the Cubs could really try something interesting like platooning Barrett in LF against LHP pitchers as Pie and Murton will platoon in RF as soon as Soriano returns.

Where exactly did you hear this rumor? It's interesting

More importantly, what team in the world, let alone the Major Leagues, would be dumb enough to want to acquire Jones and Ohman?

We said the same thing about Neifi last year...one man's trash, is another man's treasure.

I doubt that Hendry would want a lot for Jones. He hasn't been producing here at the start of the year, and just getting out of that contract would be worth it. Plus that would open up an outfield spot since we seem to have a glut of outfielders.

It's kind of weird though...Hendry couldn't find a taker in the offseason, but now after a cold start for Jones, there's interest?

I'm sure there's a bit of demand for Jones and Ohman.

Like I was saying in another thread, the fact that Jones didn't get traded doesn't mean there wasn't interest in him over the offseason. The hangup seemed to be more that the Cubs could not find the CF they wanted to replace him, and they weren't willing to trade Jones until that CF was ready to be acquired. Once Soriano said he was willing to play CF, that CF was no longer needed, and the club stopped trying to trade Jones.

I don't doubt there's someone who is interested in Jones......

but Ohman? I guess the Neifi example paints a good portrait. Maybe we can pawn him off on Detroit so Leyland can rant about how bad he is

This is why Ohman has value:

Ohman against LHB in 2005:.173/.269/.321

2006: .158/.277/.257

BTW, here are his numbers against LHP in 2007-.200/.429/.200

He got brought in one time in the right situation this year, and he failed that time. The other times, he hasn't been brought in the situation he's supposed to be for-he is absolutely great against LHB, and LHB only.

I'd do it, but is there any truth to this rumor? Also, we'd have to get something of value, b/c I believe Ohman can still be decent.

This may have been brought up before, but...

if Wade continues to struggle, packaging Wade and J Jones for prospects and the 5th spot to Guzman. A team would be getting 2 every day players (well 1 and a pitcher).

I recall hearing Miller would request a trade if he's sent to AAA.

I think what he actually said was that he'd request a trade if he were sent to the bullpen. I don't think being sent to AAA was even part of that discussion. I suspect he's out of options, so he could probably simply refuse an assignment to the minors and become a free agent.

that's a terrible idea.

im calling bs on this one. the Jays dont need a corner outfielder or a DH. even with Reed Johnson out they have Rios and Lind. They have Thomas to DH. Nothings going to happen here.

Ohman is a good LOOGY, the Cubs keep trying to use him for a full inning and against multiple righties.

Jones and Ohman are both solid players if they are used correctly. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out their splits.

We have Rapada in the system, do we not? Ohman is expendable. Jones is definitely expendable with Pie/Soriano/Floyd/Murton in the mix.

Just make sure Wilken gets a couple looks at these prospects.

Could Barrett play left? I wouldn't want another Todd Hundley situation out there.

To be fair to Zaun, he's a better option than Blanco as a backup catcher.

That being said, I don't see how the Blue Jays need Jones.

Who told you this? Some guy or do you actually have a worthy source?

Moving Barrett to the OF is a terrible idea. With Pie on the horizon and 3 other OFers already on the roster, the Cubs can afford to move Jones and not get an OFer in return. Making Barrett an OFer and replacing his bat at catcher with Zaun's makes no sense.
