I wasn't sure where to put this so I went with rivalries. While driving I listen to a fair amount of Chicago Sports Radio. I have not yet heard one local guy say anything negative about this guy. Actually they seem to have their Lips all over his backside. I understand Brian Anderson was not good as a rookie. He also was not even close to being the major downgrade from the 2005 team as the Starting Pitching was. However Erstad will not be even as good as Aaron Rowland and they have him batting 2nd. This guy is becoming the South Side version of Neifi Perez. Glad its them and not us.

I remember hearing he had a HR, so I thought he was off to a decent start.

.189/.262/.270

Guess not.

Its very sad and understandable that a Cubs fan would equate 1 home run to a good start.

1 HR in 2 weeks is a power surge for a guy like Erstad.

What's his GRIT factor? His isoHustle? His HEART percentage?

Those are the only numbers by which one can evaluate a Darin Erstad.

63.56/ .980/ 97%.

Compare this to his career averages which are 59.77/ .965/ 96%.

Age isn't slowing this baseball player (http://www.firejoemorgan.com/2007/04/baseball-players.html) down.

It is commentary like this nonsense that makes firejoemorgan such an vital national treasure. This stuff basically gets repeated without repurcussions. Plain old lies.

Not just in broadcast either. Bruce Levin, Harry Tinewitz(?). I was listening to the White Sox weekly show Saturday on the Score and their guy and some beat writer were saying how important he has been to the team so far. This is when I got home and looked up his numbers and started laughing. Holy Crap does Darin Erstad have White Sox fans and supporters fooled.

Unfortunately, if Theriot continues to play well, I have a feeling Len and Bob will refer to Theriot as the proverbial "Gamer" or "Ball Player" of the Chicago Cubs.

I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, hope they don't. Just call him The Riot and leave it at that

If he has a .400+ OBP, I don't care what they call him.

I'd be ecstatic with 370.

Darin Erstad is a master magician. He has tricked so many people into thinking that he is a good baseball player over the last sixish years.

Ok I was listening to Mac, Jurko and Harry yesterday and did get the impression that Mac doesn't care for Erstad. After Harry got done kissing Erstads backside, Mac said something along the lines of "his gritty hustling play" that sounded tongue in check. After which Harry defended Erstad some. So maybe 1 Chicago media guy has not been put into the Darin Erstad trance. Do Erstad and Neifi have the same agent?

So I was watching the White Sox-Tigers game tonight on ESPN, and Erstad was batting. The announcers said that Ozzie Guillen had been talking to them earlier and was raving about Erstad. They went on to talk about how he's won a Gold Glove at CF, LF, and 1st base, and how he plays such good defense. They then said that Guillen had said, "He may be hitting .222, but it's like he's hitting .390 because of the timing of his hits."

His one hit tonight must not have been real timely since they got shutout. Somehow I am guessing if I listen to Chicago Sports radio tomorrow this will all be Brian Andersons fault though. Darin just didnt come up with any big hits because Anderson batted last.

Speaking of Anderson though. He was DHing. Isnt he by far the White Sox best defensive outfielder? They had an outfield of Ozuna, Erstad and Macowiak. Anderson is clearly better than all 3 of these guys in the OF. Ozzie is just pure genius.
