During the off-season vance and I made a friendly wager on Looper and Marquis' performance this season.

 

 

The Rules:

 

- I've got Looper and he's got Marquis.

- There must be a minimum of 13 GS for each player.

- The winner will be determined by the highest ERA+ at the end of the regular season.

 

 

The Bounty:

 

If I win vance has to display a Cardinals avatar of my choice on NSBB for one week. If vance wins I have to display a Cubs avatar of his choice on GRB for one week. The avatars must be maximum of 170 px wide and nothing profane.

 

 

Current Standings

 

Shockingly they've been pretty good so far...

Man, I was interested in this but got dissapointed. The bounty wasn't very harsh. Only one week? Couldn't it have been more risk, like 3 months atleast?

Hah, well that's easy for you to say.

 

Why, because I'm not in it! I'll raise you. The day after the 13th start, Avatars until NOVEMBER '07. Come on, 1 week is WEAK. :P

I think the factor no one has mentioned is that as a converted reliever, Looper will run out of gas at some point, in all likelihood. He's already almost 2/3 of the way to his career high in IP. Then again, Marquis could just start sucking again, but there is no way Braden maintains for the whole year. Even if they pull him from the rotation, his numbers will take a huge hit due to fatigue before they do.

This bet definitely got very interesting. The inherent suckage factor is a much bigger variable all of a sudden. I think it won't even be close, but it's hard to say who will start crapping the bed first.

They'll both regress, but considering how many innings pitched it will take for Looper to get through this season vs how many he's pitched in previous years, I think it would be safe to say Looper would regress more... but then again, Jason Marquis is on the Cubs, afterall.

There should also be a stipulation mandating a minimum number of posts per day for the week which you're sporting the avatar.
