The team faced left-handers 1/3 of the time they played last year. This year, they have only faced left-handers 1 out of 8 games. Considering that Murton will start against every left-hander, the fact that after today he'll still have half the starts means that he's likely to get more than half the at-bats once the Cubs start playing against more left-handers. I'm not worried about it right now.

I wouldn't say I'm worried either...yet. I will just hope that this pattern doesn't continue.

The Cubs have posted a winning record in April in each of the last 4 seasons into 2007, one of only 4 teams in the majors to turn that trick, joining the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals.

Anyone see a pattern here?

East to west?

OK, I'll shutup now.

That's not the point. There are already threads on this message board dedicated to this topic...it doesn't need infiltrate every single game discussion as well.

It's going to happen. Lou is discussing it right now.

He talked about the fact the Brewers and Astros only have one lefty bullpen guy and that he wants an extra lefty bat in the line up.

What's his reasoning?

"I am trying my hardest to piss off people at NSBB. Nothing amuses me more than their huge overreactions to my lineups on a daily basis"

Funny listening to Wuertz talking about getting sent down last year. You can tell he was pissed over it and he didn't think he deserved it (which he didn't). Thanks Dusty!

Based off Lou's comments, it makes sense to me why Murton isn't starting this game.

And it still sounds like Murton is going to start a bunch.

Can we please not turn another game thread into a -Lou hates Murton- game thread? It's game 8 of the season...way too early to set start daily complaining.

Then I formally request that someone set an exact number of games that have to be played before such concerns can be voiced.

who are you? The arbiter of what should be in a game therad? Just ignore the comments and don't respond to them. That is the best way to make them go away.

Personally, I bitched about it a lot during the winter and knew it was comming so it is no shock to me.

Yeah, it's really a non issue to me. Floyd and Murton are both quality bats that are going to split time in the outfield. It's obviously not a true platoon.

No reason for anyone to get upset about it being discussed in every game thread since there is somewhat of a platoon between two guys that will cut into one or the other's playing time. It's just going to happen.

GAH!!! I hate having to watch the game on the Astros broadcast. They just said something to the effect of, "a lot of fans at Wrigley often don't even know who the Cubs are playing, they just show up."

I'm sure this is true for some, but the way they characterized it you'd think that was the majority.

Yes its going to happen, and it sucks, and people are going to voice thier displeasure over it, thats what message boards are for.

Jealousy is a terrible emotion. I bet if you polled the people as they walked into the gate welll over 90% would know who's playing today.

I really find it hard to believe when it's printed right there on the freaking ticket.

I love when they do it right behind home plate with a Cub pitching. Morons.

Sigh.

I should find that funny but I just think it's depressing.

Well that just shows them how insignificant the Astros are. :D

Please note that Eric Milton of the Reds (05 Apr) and Chris Capuano of the Brewers (08 Apr) are both left handed.
