Not as big as a $16.5 million difference in salary, at least.

Soriano is only making $9mil this season.

Can you state with 100% certainty that Sammy isn't slipping the Rangers $8 million under the table?

Yes I can. Why would Sammy be paying the Rangers 16x what they're supposedly paying him?

It depends on how you look at it, I guess. I was just lazy and averaged out the annual value of their respective contracts, but depending on how Soriano's $8 million signing bonus is paid out he very well could earn $17 million this year.

Besides, whether this year's salary difference is $8.5, $9.5, or $16.5 million Sosa will provide far, far, better value to the Rangers than Soriano will provide to the Cubs. (Assuming Sammy can maintain his current numbers, of course.)

I guess the part about the signing bonus could be true. I was assuming 8 years with an $8mil signing bonus would be paid out $1mil per year or something similar.

I'm not arguing the fact that Sosa is a better value than Soriano if his numbers keep up, though. I'm a big Sammy supporter and watch as many Rangers cames as I can (which is kind hard because of FSNSW's Astros fetish.

I'd swear there's an Astros game on every day on that damn channel.

Well Sammy's not Superman after all. He came in as a pinch hitter today in the bottom of the 9th with 2 out and 2 on down by 2 (Sammy At The Bat?). Unfortunately for the Rangers, mighty Sammy struck out.

Well, it seems even Superman isn't always Superman.

Hmm, at least he's getting on base at a decent clip considering the batting average.

What a non-clutch hack.

LH's act is tired and old. My vote goes for him exercising restraint and not visiting threads where he knows damn well the only thing he has to contribute is a bunch of B.S. nobody wants to hear.

If he can't do that, then too bad, he deserves what he gets.

BTW, Sammy with #10! Woot!

Well, Soul it's not up to you or IMB to decide who exercises restraint and who should or shouldn't visit threads.

And what the hell does "deserves what he gets" supposed to mean? A giant shout down by Sammy apologists on a message board? Oh, the agony.

If you so deeply hate Sosa, why do you continually pop up in threads specifically about him? You've made numerous posts in the most recent Sosa threads ("The Official Sammy Update Thread", "Sosa", "Great Sosa article by Mike Downey today", and "Sosa Reports to Rangers Camp"). It seems to me that you've got a personal vendetta of some sort against him that you'd like everyone to know about.

A player who has put up the numbers over his 18-year career like Sosa has needs no apologists. A person who's only presence on this board is to attempt to tear down one of, if not the greatest player to ever put on a Cubs uniform does.

speaking of ARod, did you guys see him flying around from 2b last nite...looked like he was 10 years younger and moving on in a hurry.

as for Sammy:

that K was the 2234 of his illustrious career. needs only 364 more to pass Reggie Jackson for the All Time lead. If he stays healthy, no reason why he cant have that by 2009.

He's also the poster who tried to nominate Santo as the worst broadcaster, and he's already stated several times that this season is already over.

Even if he gets it, he'll only hold it for about 10 years or so when Adam Dun breaks it.

EDIT: Dunn is only 27 and he's almost at 1000 K's and he'll hit 1100 by the end of this year.

Sosa needs two more HRs to reach 600. Bobby Cox needs 2 more ejections to break John McGraw's all-time record. It will be interesting to see which occurs first.

BTW, with Sosa so close to 600 I've temporarily stickied this thread to make sure it stays on the first page. Once he's passed 600 and the talk has died down a bit it will probably be un-stickied.
