Rotoworld's take:

Chris Carpenter (elbow) will begin a throwing and exercise program on Thursday.

"We talked about a program and how we go from here," Carpenter said earlier this week. "You ease into it and keep on building. The goal is to get back on the mound as soon as possible. But we've got to find out." Carpenter hopes to return to the mound in early May.

Rotoworld said a few days ago that it was better than 50/50 that Soriano was going on the DL.

I don't think anyone, including Carpenter, knows how this situation will resolve itself.

I imagine that Carpenter is more concerned about his situation then he is with anyone on the Cubs' roster.

That report from Roto and Carp's comments. Sound all too familiar to another 2 oft injured cubs pitchers. I'm not trying to state any facts. Just that report and comments reminded me of our heartache going through that to such promising pitchers.

Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter, placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 2 with persistent swelling in his right elbow, has been increasing his rehab work and has reported no problems. "He's been working every day," manager Tony La Russa said. "So far, no setbacks. He's starting to amp things up little by little."

-- Yahoo

But then again, he was scheduled to make his next start until he had a flare-up the day or two before his start. Until he has a problem-free start (eg: doesn't have to skip the start thereafter), I'm not banking on anything.

So in other words, he can come off the DL whenever he can pitch since it's been more than 15 days, correct?

Carpenter threw a bullpen session according to foxsports.com:

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter, sidelined since opening day by an elbow injury, threw a bullpen session Saturday in the latest step in his rehab.

"He had a good throw, he felt fine," manager Tony La Russa said. "The big key is tomorrow. We need to make sure he bounces back the way he's supposed to."

Carpenter, a 15-game winner last year, began playing catch on Tuesday after a two-week layoff. His session on Saturday was his first off a mound since he encountered swelling a day after the opener.

The Cardinals need to fill a hole in the rotation on Tuesday at Milwaukee after optioning left-hander Randy Keisler, the fill-in for three of Carpenter's starts, to Triple-A Memphis. But La Russa reiterated that Carpenter would not be ready in time.

"He's got to come in tomorrow ready to go, and then you can get serious about a program," La Russa said. "Best case is we're going to be very careful and give him everything he needs."

The Cards are having a really bad year.

They were due.

If the Cubs won the WS and then lost their ace the next year, you wouldn't see me crying.

I would still be partying.

I would still be in a coma from shock

Oh man...I so called this. I said this week to my buddy that he was gonna have to have surgery, and he said something like "You Cubs fans really think the worst is coming all the time huh?"

I said "We've got some experience with pitching injuries. I know how this goes."
