I'm sure this is posted all over the place here, but I couldn't find it and didn't want to search everywhere...

Could someone let me know the order of the pitchers in the rotation? I'm going to go to see them here in Cincy on April 4th, which would be game 2 of the season and was wondering who will likely be pitching...

Thanks.

Ted Lilly will be pitching that game...

The rotation is...

1 - Zambrano

2 - Lilly

3 - Marquis

4 - Hill

5 - Could come down between Wade Miller or Mark Prior... Maybe even Angel Guzman.

Enjoy your game.

I would assume that Wade Miller has that locked up.

Locked up in the sense that he has it for now, at least the first 4-6 times through the rotation.

Not to correct you, just to clarify.

I thought I saw something the other day (maybe pure speculation) about Lou skipping the 5th starter's spot early in the year. I know he initially said that he wouldn't, but did he change his mind on that?

As it stands, I'm going to see Marquis pitch on the 21st, and then again on the 27th. I'm not exactly thrilled about that.

Kasper was talking yesterday as if Zambrano was going to go on normal rest, so he would pitch opening day and then Saturday in Milwaukee. i dont know how this effects much after that

Yes, Lou said the plan is:

4/2 Zambrano

4/3 off

4/4 Lilly

4/5 Marquis

4/6 Hill

4/7 Zambrano

4/8 Lilly

4/9 Marquis

4/10 Hill

4/11 5th Starter

4/12 off

"We're going to pitch around Zambrano," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said, pulling a Gatorade-stained sheet of paper from his office garbage can that outlined his notes on the rotation through the May 1 game at Pittsburgh.

"The only concern," Piniella said, "is our fourth starter gets back-to-back starts against St. Louis, which we don't like, and we may do something about that."

I hope the "something about that" that Lou may do doesn't involve Hill missing a start in favor of Wade Miller.

About the only way I see Hill not going in both St. Louis series is if they skip him in the second series. But Hill's going to make Lou forget all about that theory after his first four times through the order.

Even if Miller gets the 5th spot, Prior could interfere.

Lou might pull a fast one and have Angel start that game. Clearly, he doesn't want the cardinals to have two shots at Hill in a short time span... He's right. TLR wouldn't do it and the Cubs don't need to give them any advantage. The Cards held out Looper, in a scheduled Grapefruit League start, against the Mets because he will be pitching against them on April 4th.

If Hill's the 4 starter, then by all means let him pitch against the Cards as much as he wants. He's probably our second most talented starter anyways, it's not like he's Marquis or Miller that we'd need to shelter them. We wouldn't change the rotation so that Zambrano didn't have consecutive starts against somebody, no need to do it for Hill.

I'm pissed that I have to wait until game 4 to see Rich Hill.

As for Marquis against the Cards - (1) they played with him last year, so they know he sucks, and (2) if they have a batting practice pitcher, they've probably seen his repertoire already. Let him pitch against the Pirates or Nationals, he might be able to beat them.

I think Yadier Molina knows him better than anyone.. and I have no doubt he will share his knowledge.

He will eventually have to pitch against the Cardinals, though... So I dont see the Cubs pulling him because of that.

With the 5th spot not coming up until 4/11, I wonder if that increases Prior's chances to grab that spot before then. I think he's scheduled to pitch Wednesday so if we went four days off and kept to that routine he'd be scheduled to pitch on 4/12, so I guess that doesn't work.

Actually Piniella said he would use the fifth starter the first Sunday of the season. That keeps Zambrano on a five-day schedule, then Miller, then Marquis stays on the five-day schedule. So the answer is April 8th.

That's my guess. Keeping Zambrano every 5th day when possible, and not skipping the 5th starter early. This also keeps Hill from facing STL twice.

I don't care who Cubs pitchers face. There are 162 games and Cubs have bad history with injuries. The pitchers should pitch when it is the best amount of rest for their arms. I would like to see a rotation that isn't ruined due to injuries for one season.

I have tickets to go to the Red Sox game on Patriots Day, and if there are no rainouts, Daisuke will be their starter. I'm pretty fired up for that. At the very least, I'll get to watch a baseball game and spend the better part of the day drunk.
