I'd rather keep thinking that Tony Womack was never a Cub, thank you.
He was actually a Cub twice, the end of 2003 and briefly last year.

It's like that ex that you take back against the best judgment or you and your friends. You just can't help yourself. Then you're reminded of just how awful it was.

STAY AWAY FROM WOMACK

But the only people we have that can play 2nd right now are DeRosa, Izturis, Cedeno, Theriot, and EPatt. What if they get injured?

Only in baseball do players of Womack's quality stick around this long. In any other sport a guy like him would have been put out to pasture long ago.

There's guys in the NBA who have been around forever for no apparent reason.

I would agree-the NBA has just as much of that as the MLB does.

More former Cub news over the past couple of days. Damian Jackson was released by the Dodgers and stormed out, claiming he is done with baseball. The Nationals sent Jermaine Van Buren to the minors, and the Orioles sent Brandon Sing and Luis Montanez down.

I guess I have been asleep during the offseason, but when did Sing and Montanez go to Balt?

They elected to become minor league free agents, which a player can do after spending six years in the minors.

The NFL has them too. In most cases they're called special teamers, but they play other positions as well.

Not really. Special teamers are dominated by young guys who haven't cracked a starting lineup. Besides, they do what they do well, otherwise they are cut. Baseball is the one sport where really bad players can stick around forever.

I agree with you about the NFL, but again, the NBA goes right along with baseball in which bad players stick around for a long, long time.

I'm just talking about sports though.
