Interestingly both Super Bowl teams have similar running back situations, the veteran starter leaving (by trade for the Bears and free agency for the Colts), leaving the youngsters (Benson and Addai) with the jobs full-time.

Also if you extend it out, the same thing happened to one of the participants in the conference championship with the Patriots when Dillon left.

Addai and Maroney got a little more time than Benson did though last year as well (Rhodes for example was starter in name only till the postseason, when Addai became the starter) but you're right, the situations are very similar.

The Saints should trade Deuce.

The Cowboys re-sign Colombo today. That's big news because it moves Leonard Davis to guard where he should be pretty good. He would have sucked as a tackle.

The Giants traded for Rueben Droughns.

And according to ESPN, the Texans are interested in Quinn.

Link.

Houston owns the eighth overall choice in the first round of the draft and NFL sources tell ESPN.com that the Texans have been talking to teams higher in the order about moving up in the round, if necessary, to snag Quinn. Specifically, the Texans feel they might have to leap-frog the Minnesota Vikings, who own the No. 7 pick and will also be tempted to grab Quinn.

This is absolutely great news! Now I'm kinda split on what our draft needs are. I'm a big Pat Watkins supporter, and I'm really against drafting a CB in the first because IMO Henry is staying at CB and we've already got quite a bit of money invested there. The offensive line is solidified now, so there's no need for that. WR is interesting since it is such a deep draft for them, but I really like the group we've got with TO, Glenn, Crayton, Austin, and Hurd. We could use a nickel CB, but I like McCauley in 2nd/3rd round area. A backup C is needed too since Johnson left, but Young out of Fresno St. is decent and could be gotten on on day 2. There aren't really any prototypical NT's this year, but players like Soliai, Doughty, Dagunduro could all be had on 2nd day as well. Reggie Nelson is the only person I would really love to see in the first and I doubt he makes it that far.

I think there's a decent chance Nelson falls to 22. It's not a certainty, but in this draft it could happen. I want that shut-down free safety. I'd love to get Landry, but he'll be picked with the 8-14 pick, I'm sure. Nelson has a chance to fall to 22, and if so Dallas should take him. If Nelson is gone, I'd like to see the Cowboys trade down. If they can trade the 22nd for two picks in the range of 30-40, they may be able to get Michael Griffin out of Texas and Meacham or Craig Davis.

I didn't get to watch any football outside of the Thanksgiving Day games this year, but it's my understanding that Griffin is more of a SS than a FS? Maybe we could trade down to say Oakland for their 2nd this year, and 1st next year and try for Kenny Phillips. Meachem, Bowe, Rice, and possibly Jarrett would be there at the top of the 2nd.

I have never been real happy with our RB. Pending his physical I would not mind taking a flyier on Michael Bush and trading JJ. Outside of that the secondary is the biggest need by far.

As for that other team in Texas, espn.com is reporting they might have some interest in Quinn. Why try to correct last seasons biggest mistake?

There really hasn't been alot of running room the past few years though. JJ is at his best in space, and I think that we'll see a much better running attack this year with the much improved line. Rivera was just taking up room but did very little last year. I think Bush is going to turn out to be another Ron Dayne in the NFL. If we trade JJ, and draft another RB this year I think it would be more of a speedster. We've already got MBIII to be the bruiser so we'd need a change of pace.

TJ Duckett signs a 1 year $1.5M deal.

The lions are now reportably shopping Tatum Bell for a 2nd round pick. I know you guys all know that crazy so i wont get into that but let me say this....I HATE MATT MILLEN. This guys has made so much money being a clown its ridiculous. Of all the people in sports who make boatloads of cash Millen is the worst. Athletes making all the cash dont bother me at all but Matt Millen making $5M a year and guaranteed $25 is a joke. Seriously guys, we can do just as good as him and hes making $5M a year. I have a hard time comprehending those #s for him. But since his contract is guaranteed i hope he sticks around and keeps ruining the Lions.

The Patriots get Donte Stallworth-6 years, 30 million, 12 guaranteed

If he can stay healthy, this is a really good move-that's a definite huge question mark though.

Jesus, if Donte Stallworth can get 30 million on the free agent market, I can really understand why the Bears have no interest in overpaying for some players.

Thats absurd, even given teh year he had.

Not much of that 30 million is guaranteed.

From ESPN.com,

Stallworth will receive an initial signing bonus of $1 million, a roster bonus of $1.6 million and a $300,000 workout bonus, to go along with his 2007 base salary of $700,000. That totals $3.6 million for the coming season.

That's all that's guaranteed.

For the Patriots to retain Stallworth for the 2008 season, they must pay him an option bonus of $6 million by Feb. 25, 2008. There is a subsequent roster bonus of $2 million due on March 1, a second roster bonus of $1.6 million based on playing time, a base salary of $1 million and a $400,000 workout bonus. That totals an exorbitant $11 million for 2008, or a two-year total of $14.6 million.

To keep Stallworth for 2009, the Patriots would have to pay another option bonus, this one of $2 million, by Feb. 25 of that year. In terms of bonuses and base salary, the 2009 season would be worth $5 million to Stallworth, for a three-year total of $19.6 million.

The final three seasons of the contract all include workout bonuses of $500,000 each and base salaries of $4 million each. The maximum value of the contract, if the Patriots were to keep Stallworth for all six years, is $33.1 million.

An initial report on ESPN.com saying the deal was worth a guaranteed $12 million was later clarified by a source, who said the deal -- which only guarantees one year -- gives Stallworth and the Patriots flexibility.

Its still early yet, I'd wait until at least the draft to make a pick like that.

And the Pats have 2 first round picks

You can definitely pencil in another AFC East title. That would make, what, 5 in a row now?

The other Jones brother on the move?

The Cowboys have told teams that Julius Jones can be had for the right price, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Here go the Patriots again-they sign Kelley Washington now-5 years, 22 million-but this deal is like the Stallworth deal, which definitely means that at most they are keeping one of the two after the season and cutting the other one.

http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/10033511

This is an absolutely crazy market. Kelley Washington for 4.5 mil a year? Even on a potential one-year contract, that's alot for a receiver who's done nothing in the NFL.
